Re: Moving back to Nikon .... eventually
Thought I had better explain my move back to Nikon
![]() Having been spoiled by the image quality of 5D, plus speed of focus & acuracy of 1D, I've decided I want it all wrapped up in one camera, plus have improved high ISO capability. The answer is simply the Nikon D700 or D3 in my eyes |

Re: Moving back to Nikon .... eventually
A point & shoot might work out better in the long run, just pick it up when you feel you want it all in one and put it away when you have a need for a good lens.
I really like the swivel LCD's and look how long they have taken to even bring live view. Look at the Rebel 500D, what a joke,,if they want to quit playing chess with each other, let them make the best camera first and then run down the price with cheaper variants. I am thinking seriously about adding another brand body to my kit and keeping my current bodies until they pass out from over use just to obtain the features I would like to use more of. Like an LCD on a swivel body not an add on. Quality is in the eye of the beholder and I wish you luck, but a good camera body has no name, it just works really really well. ![]()

Re: Moving back to Nikon .... eventually
Boofers - I agree 100% about the swivelling LCD. That was a great feature of the older Canon G-series cameras and it was just so useful. And then they stopped fitting it to the newer ones.

Simple flog that german lawnmower and give Grays a ring quite sure they will only be to pleased to do some business just make sure your sat down when they give you the total. And make sure you have a fire extingusher ready for when the plaky spontanously combusts.
And after Andy Reece has played maybe wise to keep one in the car as well ! Tells me you "nailed him down" somewhat! |

Re: Moving back to Nikon .... eventually
There is always so much talk about Nikon and Canon and we all know it is a very boring talk at that. The one person I would like to meet though is not the one who can tell the difference between a p[icture taken with a £1000 lens over one taken with a £100 lens (you can definitely see the difference there) but the one who can look at pictures taken with a good Canon and a good Nikon and consistently see a difference between the pictures side by side. Never met him yet and doubt he exists!
Even if someone did claim they could tell the difference (and I wouldn't believe him/her anyway!) I will gladly lay a bet of any amount of money that the real-world viewers of photos out there, ie the non-photographers, would not, could not and wouldn't want to! Do you reckon we photographers are the worst people for being partisan with very little logical reason? Bet you could make a good case for that! My downstairs-flat neighbour has a gorgeous car and I have no idea what make it is. Why? Because he has stripped it of all brand identification so that people will simply enjoy it for the beautiful car it is without going on and on about which brand is their favourite. He has a very good point. Maybe we should all take black marker pens and fill in the brand logos on our cameras, forget which brand they are and just enjoy the photos they produce :o) Just a thought :o) Cheers, Rob ps and Yes, I am still going to buy a Canon 5D MkII and No, I am not going to give a moment's thought to whether it is better or worse than any camera in the Nikon range or any other range come to that :o)
