Sigma 17-70mm lens for digital SLRs

Sigma has announced a new 17-70mm F2.8-4.5 standard zoom lens designed specifically for APS-C sensor digital SLR cameras. The lens offers a minimum focusing distance of 20cm (7.9”) throughout the entire zoom range and a maximum magnification of 1:2.3 enabling extreme close-up photography. (11:25 GMT)

Sigma are producing a nice set of lenses at the moment, just a shame that you always have that quality issue in the back of your mind.

I don't bloody believe this. Is it an EX lens? If so I'm livid.

I wish I'd known about it when I was replacing the kit lens because I might well have waited for it. The only box on my checklist that it wouldn't have ticked is constant f/2.8 but f/4.5 @ 70mm isn't bad so I might've still gone for it (subject to reviews).

Grrr.
