New TFT monitor problem - MAC help required

Wondering if anyone can help... My trusty ol' 23" Formac CRT monitor blew-up the other day when i plugged it in (dodgy Spanish electric), and i had to go out and buy myself a cheap monitor quickly....I chose the Samsung Syncmaster 913v which i am actually very happy with (it is sharp nice and bright but no too much so, and has been calibrated well)......However, in certain areas on some of my images it seems i have what i would call 'Colour break-up' or bad 'colour smoothing' (where a vivid colour goes blocky as it gradiates into another colour). Not sure of an exact technical term because i have never encountered it before. It only shows up on my monitor when i have checked on others the colours are fine.
Does anyone know of a setting i may have over-looked?? I am using an Apple Mac G4 OS X, is there anyway of checking how many millions of colours i am seeing or at what depth i am seeing images in? This is an area i have never looked into before because normally i have had everything set up just right, and i did think myself fairly mac savvy.

Re: New TFT monitor problem

I'm no expert, but if you right click on an emty area of your desktop (in windows) and select properties you can see a tab marked settings. here you can alter the screen resolution , for LCD I think you have to use the native screen settings) and also the colour depth. Mine is set to the max - 32 bit.

The LCD screens are different to CRT's. I think CRT's are interpolated, and LCD's are not. Progressive? (or vice versa). I don't know if this is automatically selected/ignored depending on the input used - analogue or digital.

Over my head now, so I guess someone who knows for sure wiill be along soon.

Re: New TFT monitor problem

There is bound to be a Mac or monitor expert out there somewhere that may help my situation, all be it a bit of a picky one but all the same a niggly one.

Re: New TFT monitor problem - MAC help required

Hiya...I'm a MAC user and use an iBook G4. I have (so far) not encountered this problem and also can't see any help subjects that may be of assistance. In fact MAC help can be more misleading than any help!
I'll keep on looking and get back to you if i come up with anything.
Phil

Re: New TFT monitor problem - MAC help required

Cheers for that Phil. I've almost exhausted my searching capabilities, so will be giving up on it shortly.
I read the article Dave, though informative it wasn't a problem solver for me on this occasion however it did give me some new terminology to search for so not entirely useless....Thanks.
