Re: NIght images

To get more detail, most people use a stacking software (to get trails) or other programmes to bring out the detail. A lens hood is good if you have any light sources around that are likely to intrude.
If you google star photography, there are some great tutorials out there.

Re: NIght images

I'm not sure if the wide angle lens that you show will be of any help in actually getting your pictures. i suggest that you have a practise with what you have first, then you can decide if you need a wider lens or not if you are not getting the shots that you want.

You need to use the 500 rule (or the 600 rule) and simpbow has posted a great tutorial here:

Lots more in his gallery. He has also posted a tutorial on the technique he used to get the pictures of the lit foregrounds with a torch, but it is within one of the threads and I can't find it!

Re: NIght images

A wider lens - if you have a choice will give more stars in the image. Definitely worth following the tip in the tutorial. You need to experiement with F rating an ISO and time of shot, till you find the sweet spot.

Stacking is normally only done to get star trails. Which can also be impressive.

Re: NIght images

Hi ya thats very kind of you Dabs, a lot of time is trial & error in my case error, the most important things to start with are a fast wide-angle lens, faster the better, wouldnt go any lower than F/4 if i was you, if you have a F2.8 even better then a steady tripod, remote release,Torch & Warm clothing.I done a lot of research to for tips off different sites to help me along the way to, but you see what suits you, here are some good links that i found very helpful to,simpbow

I put on links for you but they are not showing, will do again later once i come back in
