Onestopdigital - paypal question

Hi,

I was looking to order a flash and grip from onestopdigital (HK) has anyone ordered from them using paypal? I have reached the confirmation stage of the order and selected Paypal, however I wish to use my credit card rather than my bank account - will the next stage (confirmation) allow me to select my payment option?

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but my bank manager would not be too impressed if I went overdrawn this early in the month

TIA,

Alan

Re: Onestopdigital - paypal question

It will let you choose

" Other method of paymant " but usually you have to have a credit card registered prior to payment.

I have my Debit card set up as my first method of payment and for when I do daft tricks like buying new camera's I have a secondary method of my credit card

Sorry to sound so ignorant, but does the next stage take you to the Paypal website?

Re: Onestopdigital - paypal question

When I paid onestop digital for a lens, it took ages for the 'echeque' to clear. I thought that Paypal would use my debit card and that this would clear immediately. If given the option, I think I would pay with a credit or debit card to avoid the long delay. Also, I had some funds in paypal, but because there was not enough to settle the whole account with onestop digital, Paypal wouldn't use any - and just drew the money from my 'alternative' source. Otherwise - v happy with vendor - just received the goods - all in good order.

Got caught out with e-cheque with paypal like you did, which took something like 10 days to clear. Personally I feel paypal have made this the default payment method as they get hit with less charges than credit card companies & thus make more profit

Re: Onestopdigital - paypal question

Excuse me butting into your thread Mr Hooky but I'll be very interested in hearing from you after delivery with respect to VAT and Duty.

I've ordered from One Stop Digital a couple of times previously and been 110% delighted with speed of delivery and price but I'm a little worried about a report in last months Photography Monthly suggesting a clampdown by HMCR.

I may well take a punt anyway, I'm after a Tamron 90mm macro which is only a couple of hundred quid and if I get chased, it's not the end of the world as OneStop will refund your VAT anyway, it's just that I've had no tiresome complications so far.

All the best,
Pete

Re: Onestopdigital - paypal question

The only thing I've bought from OneStop is a Sigma 150mm f/2.8 macro lens. It arrived pretty quickly but there was a FedEx bill for about 17 (iirc) for duty and handling. I sent this to OneStop as per their instructions, and my PayPal a/c was credited.

Buying from HK or wherever is not my first choice because I can't just take it back if it's faulty, but OneStop honoured their pledge to refund any VAT or duty charged.

However... Many HK retailers get away with it by mis-declaring the item as a gift. I suspect that this is what HMRC will tighten up on, and then we'll see if they can still afford to offer the refund. This could affect a load of eBay suppliers.

No probs with VAT, nothing extra needed to be paid as each item was worth less than 18.....
