Re: Open Source Camera

yes it did look large but I assumed that that's a prototype and any commercial version would be more lie what we have now ...or it'll never sell

Re: Open Source Camera

Very true. And I'm one of those linux guys that started drooling when I saw this. I wonder if it will actually become available to consumers.

Re: Open Source Camera

Size is the thing here... as its the insides of a Nokia attached to a circuit board at the moment, I suppose it also would need a SSD (Solid State Drive) to hold the software as well...

But then again, the fist camera's were HUGE things.

If it takes off, then yes, you will see the thing getting smaller...
I have put the link on another board I post on, and there has been some interest by the Linux Guys I spoke of, much as to what motherboard could be used to support the Linux O/S...

Personally, although a user, I dont know enough (yet) about Linux to contemplate fiddling under the hood...

Who knows?... but I can see a LOT of interest in this.... open source is always good....

Re: Open Source Camera

Here is a link to a mini-itx motherboard review which as far as I know is the smallest commercially available motherboard (been out of the loop for a while so there may be something else). It measures 17cm x 17cm, which still is big for a camera but I'm sure the technology will continue to get smaller.

Edit: I stand corrected. Meet the Pico - ITX motherboard.

You can force Linux onto something like a DSLite, although its I dont know for sure if it may be a one-way trip (as in, once on, you cant go back...) so perhaps the right interfaces, or even the DSi, that one with its own camera, may be a "Solution" to this as well.....

Very interesting. Now I wish I had a DS to mess around with.

I have messed with DSL (damn small Linux), it's a linux distro that fits in 50mb. So it can be run from a cd, usb thumb drive, or other media (capable of booting directly). This combined with the "scanner camera" could be a homemade open source digital camera. Hmmmm now the wheels are turning...
