It's interesting. It's a bit sad that the major manufacturers can't overcome their competitive differences for this, and settle on a common RAW format. I'd think thought that where there's a supply and demand problem, someone will always come with a solution for unsupported formats?

I suppose it's commercial interest and protection of their respective technologies, which is understandable to an extent.

It's sad that they can't work towards the greater good though, for the good of the consumer and the future of the market, rather than just think self self self.

They're a business and therefore will always try to get that little advantage. If that's seen as a need to be open then they will fight each other to be the first.

Being a recent Canon owner (and still in the honeymoon period) I expect that what I've read about Canon listening to their users and responding that they'll do something along these lines. That'll be all it takes for the others to follow.
