Out of date film.
I have 5 rolls of Konica VX200 Super film, that has a process by date of Ocober 2006. Does anyone have any advice o whether it is still useable? If so, how much longer is it lekely to be useable, and how should I store it to prolong its life?

Re: Out of date film.
Film is normally still very good after the use by date. I would have no problems using it especially as it's out by only a month. I have used film that has been 2/3years past it's date with normal results (though i wouldn't use it for anything special that far out of it's date).
To preserve it, do what you would normally do with stuff, either sling it in the fridge if you want to use it within the next month or 2, or for longer pop it into the freezer (i'm not joking). |

Re: Out of date film.
I'd agree with that. Out of date film can be a great bargain. Some places specialise in close to and OOD film.
I also agree with storing film in either the fridge or freezer, BUT do make sure it is removed from store in good time before you use it, as condensation can form as it warms up. It needs to be in room temerature for 1 - 2 days depending if it has come from fridge or freezer. Imagine bringing a CD from your car into your house in the middle of Winter. You would not put it straight into your HiFi, would you?

Re: Out of date film.
Before you throw it into either a freezer or a fridge place it in a sealed bag (ziplock ones are ideal)

Re: Out of date film.
Out of date film is not too bad, I have used stuff over a year out of date.
Problems can occur with film that has been exposed and then left for a long period of time as the latent image degrades quite quickly. As someone just said, a sealed bag is good preferably with some silica gel bags. Always let the bag and contents warm to ambient before opening for use. |
