Question P-series adaptor.

Not to sure about this but have got a P-series WA adaptor 77mm for my wide angle lens but it only holds 1 filter, can you get one the same size [77mm] that would hold more filters?

Re: P-series adaptor.

The adapter doesn't hold the filters, you put a filter holder on the adapter

Re: P-series adaptor.

not as far as I'm aware.

The only difference between the normal and wide angle filter holders is it's "depth". i.e. the number of filters it can hold. they have the exact same width and height.

neway, you can't stack cokins without colour casts so why bother?

Also, you still can't use the wa filter holder @ < 12mm At least with the sigma 10-20. Might be different for your Tokina

Re: P-series adaptor.

as above, yoou just pull the ring out and fit the multi filter adapter. That 77 on an L17-40 by any chance?

Don't get ripped off! Places like T4 cameras are firing these things out very cheap, its where I tend to get my filters from now.

Re: P-series adaptor.

You might find that the filter holder only has one filter slot to prevent vignetting. The normal filter holders are quite deep.

Re: P-series adaptor.

the vignetting only really comes in at the wide angles of the lens though, if its a 70-300 there should be no problem

In his post he is referring to a wide angle lens.

Re: P-series adaptor.

Yep, it's the thickness of the (standard) holder that causes vignetting, unless you turn it through 180 degrees which makes graduated filters a bit of a problem.

I cut down a standard P-series holder to leave just a single filter slot - any thicker and it was no good on the super-wide lenses.

Re: P-series adaptor.

Simpbow, your filter holder/adapter can be separated - you may have received them joined together + not realised that they are two separate pieces :

The adapter ring screws onto your lens - you get these in all sizes to fit any lens. To make full use of your Cokin filter system, you should get an adapter for each different sized lens you own (they cost less than a fiver). You can also fit the adapter onto a screw-in type filter already fitted to a lens, so you CAN have more than one filter at a time even with the WA holder

The holder slides onto the adapter, so that you can move it from lens to lens, if your lenses each have an adapter ring fitted.

The single holder is best for ultrawide angle lenses (e.g. your Tokina 12-24mm) to avoid vignetting, although you could fit a standard holder (which holds 3 filters) onto a wide angle lens if you wanted to, but beware of vignetting. If you really need to use more than one filter at a time on your 12-24mm lens, then I believe you could get a bigger holder - the next size up from the P Series - but you'd have to buy the bigger filters to fit it. See the Cokin website for more info.

If I want to use my Cokin filter system with my Sigma 10-20, I first remove the UV which I keep on (all my lenses) as standard, because it's the least needed filter in most situations. I fit the screw-in type polarizer filter onto the lens. Then fit the Cokin adapter (I think my adapters are actually Kood) onto the polarizer + slide the Cokin filter holder onto the adapter, ready to receive ND grad filter. Bob's your uncle Have to say I do get a bit of vignetting at the 10mm end, but I simply adjust the zoom 'til the vignetting's gone (as OP says, that probably takes it back to about the 12mm mark).

Re: P-series adaptor.

If you fit the Cokin w/a holder (or a cut-down standard one) straight onto the lens, a Cokin polariser will fit into it along with one other filter without any vignetting at 10 mm.

This is my modified one. I think the w/a version is similar.
