Are people frightened by Glamour Photography?

I only ask this since I notice that last week's POTW was glamour and only attracted 10 comments all week. The new POTW has received 12 comments in 24 hours. Can this be perceived as a condemnation of glamour, generally?

Re: Are people frightened by Glamour Photography?

Not condemnation or fear. I have to say, most glamour shots just leave me fairly cold. Alot of them have or seem to me to have no real artistic merit. I had a photo mag delivered this week, with lots of pages devoted to "Fine art" nudes. To be honest, it just seemed an excuse to show boobs and full frontal shaved lady bits, the photo's were tacky.
Personally, I didn't comment on last weeks shot as I didn't like it, I thought the blinds being off horizontal and shadowed didn't work and the model was pouting, unsmiling and wearing a lot of make up, so just standard lads mag glamour stuff to me. I don't mean any offence, but that's how it made me feel as a woman viewing it.

Re: Are people frightened by Glamour Photography?

Frightened? No.
Condemning? Not necessarily.

Pick up a copy of a fairly reasonable fashion mag and you'll see glamour dressed up as fashion - and the result is usually a good photograph. And that's without necessarily liking the fashion, whether clothes or hair/makeup!

I'm a "I may not agree with you but I'll defend your right to do it" type of person, so glamour shots don't worry me overmuch - just don't ask me to like them unless they're good (inevitably, a subjective and personal "good"! )

Re: Are people frightened by Glamour Photography?

I go along with Sarah on this. Stern-looking women with tattoos, fake tans and trowelled-on make-up are not, to me, glamorous in any way, although I accept that they appeal to some people and good luck to them!

Re: Are people frightened by Glamour Photography?

i personally dont feel in general that its to do with the genre, there maybe many other reason for the amount of views or comments, although, i think a beach shot (this weeks POTW) will generally have a wider appeal than a glamour shot (Last weeks POTW), and that there is more to say about the shot simply because we all are probebly qualified to do so, because most of us have shot a beach scene, glamour is a little more specialist. thats my 2p (back in my box i go)

Fair comments and a couple of which I had not considered.

Re: Are people frightened by Glamour Photography?

I reckon the stuff they put in our tea at school has started to work 'cause most of the 'glamour' I see these days strikes me as distinctly unglamourous.

My own take on the subject is that 'more is less' - much more effective to show less and suggest more!

Re: Are people frightened by Glamour Photography?

I made a remark on the photo,,. and I say creative liecense is something to concider when viewing on a sight like this,,,I looked at what was it trying to say,,and how was it set up...I think it was mood setting in a natural way and really showed the many sides a female can have,,,, I think it was approperate to select it and should be given any other concideration that we give butteryflys or abstract and monochorme shadows.

Fair comment, Boofers! It's just that I prefer my butterfly with less makeup!
