Which photography magazine to subscribe to?

I'd like to subscribe to a photography magazine but not sure which one. They all have their good points but was wondering which one you'd recommend?

I don't want anything aimed at a professional but something for an amateur that will provide inspiration and not focus too much on in-depth technical reviews.

Re: Which magazine to subscribe to?

I subscribe to Digital Photo magazine. There are always several projects in PP every month which are in the mag and are also video lessons on the coverdisc. These are mostly for PS or Elements, but they usually have a couple for PSP too.

They also have reasonable 'freebies' for a subscription - the current one for an 18 month sign-up is a Lowepro Mini Trekker AW.

I think you ought to get two or three and see which one you like in terms of content and style before making a commitment.

Re: Which magazine to subscribe to?

I agree Digital photo is quite good with the disc etc however the actual mag seems more full of adverts than others. I have bought DP for over 2 years now and the discs make good watching etc.
Also quite handy when u wanna walk into the store and try and get them to price match as the mag contains more adverts etc.
Thing is its more expensive than the others.

Not sure if it's the same, but sounds very similar to Graham's, I get Digital Camera, which is also quite good. Of course there are bits that you should just ignore, but I think at your level Angela you would know what those are. Often has a whole pullout booklet on a particular PP topic, and a disc with lessons and sample pics for you to play with on it.

Re: Which photography magazine to subscribe to?

I used to subscribe to Digital Photo and thought it was more of a Photoshop based mad. I like Digital Camera now. I think for all of the the articles tend to get repetitive after a year or so. I now buy then individually if there is a specific topic I am interested in. However I would also look at the freebie on offer for the subscription.

If you want a pure photo mag then I guess the ones that stay clear of Photoshop do not have DVD full of PS stuff may suit you better. I cannot help with suggestions for these.

Re: Which photography magazine to subscribe to?

What Digital Camera, there's quite a lot of Adobe pictorials from time to time. Also there's a gallery at the back which scores virtually every item ascociated with digital photography. Also there's some interesting reading.
The other mag I find on a random purchase is the Amateur Photographer .It comes out weekly so its very topical. here again AP has lost a lot of its appeal compared to a few years ago.

Most of the Magazines are owned by just two major publishers.!!

Re: Which photography magazine to subscribe to?

Another vote for Practical Photography here. I had a subscription a while ago to take advantage of the free Lowepro bag, it ran out last year but I still purchase it for the odd plane ride... a decent read that dosn't cost a fortune.
