Photography training / courses

I would like to get some formal training in general photography, but specially, composition, studio lighting and professional photoshop use / retouching. Can anybody recommend the best option for me? I don't want to take some generic online course that will be no use to me, cost is not really a limiting factor, I want quality training so I can progress my photography onwards and upwards

Thanks
David

Re: Photography training / courses

Stupot is doing a portrait course at the moment - see some of his recent posts.

Not sure where it is, but he is based on the South coast, so may not be far from you. Stupot said he would do the same when he gets back. He is on the course as we speak.

Clafra also went on a course, although that one was in Venice (not stupid, is he?), but the tutor might do UK based courses too. He also did a review of the course here.

Edit: Stupot will do a review of the course he is currently doing.

Re: Photography training / courses

I applied to enrol at my local college to do a 2 year hnd course in photography.

When I went to the interview the place was packed with teenagers with the most amazing portfolio's. Me being 45 thought ahh well....

Got an offer to start at the end of this month and being in Scotland it's free!!

Re: Photography training / courses

Yes as Graham's just said I've just finished a week long course comprising of 3 days studio, 2 days wedding tuition and i must say I'm totally buzzing after it, i loved it...............will be be doing a write up over the weekend

I guess the main thing to look at is your budget, because from my experience courses from private companies generally as a rule will cost anything between £150 - £250 per day obviously local colleges are alot cheaper but spread over many weeks!

look out for my write up over the next couple of days
