Re: Photoguard - Insurance

I used them once but, when my gear asset list jumped to over five figures in value, they were no longer competitive in terms of price or overall level of cover.

I elected to go with Towergate CameraSure instead as their policy (and therefore the fee) could be tailored to my exact business needs. I've also heard good things about Aduki.

Given that you have some 10K+ in gear (new for old vaule) yourself, then I'd look towards the specialist professional photographic insurers instead of PhotoGuard.

Hi Ian, I use them as I had nothing but trouble with the horse insurance people, you will not know how good any insurance company is until you have to make a claim, I think that you pay your money and take your chances im afraid.

Re: Photoguard - Insurance

E&L have a dreadful rep horse, camera etc

have seeen a couple of bad reports for PG but its a case of checking the terms for things like dropping equipment, leaving it unattended etc for the most part.

I like them because for me starting in my first year last year, there was no having to earn over 15k to get pro cover etc which some insurers go for.

Re: Photoguard - Insurance

If you want general household cover if not a pro, Marks & Spencers are good. House contents insurance is unlimited and you only have to state any items over 4500.00 in value. Camera gear is not included in that unless individual items are over that price. You can cover them for in and out of the home and accidental damage.

Re: Photoguard - Insurance

Yes, with hubby's bikes, he's bought several items off ebay, but insurers just asked that in case of theft, we have photographs of items and a note from local shop as to how much it is worth.

Re: Photoguard - Insurance

I've been with E & L for a while and haven't had the 'pleasure'?? of testing their claims system (and I don't really want to either).

Anyway I had to change my insurance for public liability reasons and E&L were much cheaper than PG.

BTW if you go over 10K of kit they want your house alarmed.

Re: Photoguard - Insurance

Thanks for the replies

I do have my camera gear insured with my house hold insurance on and off the property.

Reason I asked about Photoguard (and I should have said in my opening post) is I haven't got public liability insurance which I'm wondering if I should have

Re: Photoguard - Insurance

deffinately get liability and indemnity , you can get that seperately if wanted, too many people out there these days willing to blame someone else.

Yeah and a lot of house insurance won't cover trips abroad. Mine would only do Europe which is pretty pointless, hence another reason I went with E&L.

There's a sister site to PG called Untitled Document
