Photos in the rain

I was away taking photos of the red arrows in belfast a couple of weeks ago. It bucketed the whole time of the show.

I guess if your taking photos in the rain you ideally want to be as close to the subject as possible but in this case I hadn't much choice!

Is there any way to limit the damage the rain causes to final image quality?!

or any processing tips to counter it?!

thanks,
Steve

Re: Photos in the rain

In that case you might need a para-sole from a bar.

Re: Photos in the rain

Hi Steve, Regarding the distance you are from the objects, you won't be able to minimise the affect of the amount of water coming between you camera and the object. The use of a long focal length lens will mean that the rain will be out of focus and will appear as a mist. This will have the affect of reducing the clarity of the shot in the same way as soft focusing.

You could fit an lens hood to minimise the chance of rain drops landing on the front of the lens.
Regards Brian

Re: Photos in the rain

thanks for the reply Brian,

i have the lens hood on which did a great job, never had to clean the glass once but it was that rain / mist that was the problem!

i assume there is no way round it!!

Re: Photos in the rain

I used to work at a Air base in uk, I met red arrows, and they gave me a signed picture" just like the one in Emerdale in the wool pack " or is it wolf pack. this as nothing to do with your question, wearing red overalls does clear the path for you, as i found out on the day they visited, me wearing red got some looks. anyway i got this pride and joy picture, got home put it on a table, went looking for a frame, and my wife knocked over a cup of coffe. http://www.pixalo.com/community/imag...s/banghead.gif, Ask asda or any big store for an umbrella and they might send you one! really, its amazing what you can get for free, especially when there are crouds about. good luck with your quest.
