Police record check

Anyone had a self done Police check?

When I did the ice hockey shoot last weekend I got my media pass and signed some forms but was then asked if I was ???? can't remember the exact words used but I immediately said no..........I then realised it was regarding the arena having children in.

So has anyone else been self checked by the Police and if so what did you have to do?

Cheers Ian.

Re: Police record check

sounds pretty much like what I did, although my then employer paid that charge. I guess in this instance you're self employed so would need to pay yourself though no idea if this is something you can get back.

When I did it, it was just name, address, tick a box saying no criminal record, tick another saying CRB can look me up, then asked for some money. Pretty standard - in my case it was because the job involved peoples bank details, mortgages etc.

Re: Police record check

I was looking at CRB checks yesterday, it said current legislation does not allow self employed to perform one on themselves?

Criminal Records Bureau - Applicants

So how do all those TOGs saying thier CRB checked actually get checked if thier self employed, I suppose in this instance the arena would have to apply?

We have the same thing in scotland, it's called Disclosure Scotland you can get a limited and full one... you have to have them if your job requires you being with children under 16.
With the disclosures you have to get a new one for each new job....

CRB check - you can get one but it costs - not sure how much. You get a piece of paper to say that you're (mostly) harmless.

Re: Police record check

There are various organisations you get a CRB check done, I believe the SWPP can do it on your behalf although you would have to be a member.

My local music shop/academy is going to do mine as they are dealing with kids all the time.

Out of interest does a minor conviction stay on your record for life?

Ian yes any conviction will stay on your record for life however they become spent after a certain amount of time, meaning you don't have to declare them when applying for a job etc...

As for a CRB check i have had one done at a previous job, i have a couple of convictions from when i was a teenager i just declared them when applying and was cleared to work as a contractor in sensitive government areas. I think what their generally looking for is any conviction that would make you a concern working around children or the public not whether you went off the rails a bit as a teenager, obviously depends what the conviction was for, any conviction for violent crime might cause you problems!!

Re: Police record check

Check out rehabilitation of offenders act. I think minor offences are purged on a sliding scale from 5 to 10 years.
