Policing your Pixalo.com uploads

Okay, I've not posted here in forever, but I wanted to pass on information to new users and long-time contributors to pixalo.com

Much like any other website, the image uploads you make to Pixalo will be indexed by the likes of Google, Bing, Baidu, Yahoo etc.; this obviously allows people to find your photographs, but it equally allows less than scrupulous people (and businesses) to appropriate your work and publish it without you knowing.

Fortunately, the servers on Pixalo retain any embedded data within the pictures you upload. If you get into the habit of adding and embedding IPTC data (your name, contact details etc) into your uploads, and perhaps also specific information relating to Pixalo.com, you can exponentially aid your ability to track, trace and ultimately be compensated for any unauthorized uses of your images.

Also, you should get into the habit of policing your work using Google's reverse image search, TinEye, or services such as Pixsy.

Just my PSA for the day

Re: Policing your Pixalo.com uploads

Thanks for this. I always leave my metadata embedded in files, but a lot of people don't.

Good to see that you are still around.

Thanks for letting me know what Pixsy is, I have been hearing it passed around.

Re: Policing your Pixalo.com uploads

Hmm interesting - just tried a few images in the reverse search, found a couple of references to images on something called Piccsr - a thing I didn't even know existed
