Thanks John. I wondered this, But he said that he uploaded jpgs. Tigerbarb, is your camera set to save files in jpg and RAW formats?

You can open RAW files in a RAW converter. Photoshop has ACR built in so this should open them, and you should have some software supplied with your camera that will also open them.

Re: RAF picture file ?

Hi John & Graham
The JPG files open ok, my camera was not new and no software came with it when I bought it only used it about 6 times. The way I loaded the files, taken out the memory card put it into the computer up loaded them so I could look at the pictures and transferred the ones I wanted to Photoshop and saved them. Can I find RAW or RAW Converter in any files to click on to open the files, also will it upset any of my other files if I do it, will try to find out what settings on the camera and look in the Photoshop book to see about RAW.

Re: RAF picture file ?

If you open Photoshop, in the file menu select 'open' and navigate to one of your RAF files and click on it it should open in ACR where you can do the conversion and then open it in Photoshop to make any other changes that you want before saving the image as normal.

The biggest advantage of using RAW files is that you can change the exposure, white balance and lots of other things but with no actual changes to the original files, so the original is untouched and always available to re-edit. You have total control over the image.

That is strange. The other thing you can try is to double click on the RAF file or right click and go to 'open with'. If Photoshop is not listed you can go to the bottom of the dialogue box and click on 'choose default programme'. Then navigate to photoshop.exe and select that. This will add photoshop to the right click list.

If this does not work it could be that the ACR version you have is not recognising the RAF files, although I was under the impression that all of the older file formats are recognised with newer ACR releases.

I searched Google and found that there seems to be a bug that prevents ACR from reading some raf files that vary from camera to camera, althiough they are all called raf files.

Adobe Community: Opening raw file (.raf) from Fujifilm x100s with Elements 10

Photoshop & .RAF files | MyFinePix UK

You can try downloading the free Faststone image viewer to see if that will open the RAF files. You can also convert the raf files to Adobe DNG with the Adobe free converter and CS5 will read the DNG files.

Good idea Jake

Tigerbarb - if you decide to try this make sure that you download the correct one for your camera as raf files will be specific to your camera even though the format has the same designation for all Fuji cameras.
