Which RAW converter

For those that shoot RAW.......just wondered which converter you all use.

I would guess most will be RSE users although I have had such a love hate relationship with the programme that I stopped using it.

Loaded on my PC I have;

Bibble.
Silkypix.
Capture one LE.
DPP.
ACR.
RSE Premium.

At present I am using Capture one.

Re: Which RAW converter

Currently I use RawShooter Premium for the raw conversion and then Adobe Photoshop CS for any other edits I need to make.

As RSP is now out of production and no longer supported I will be looking into the alternatives when I next upgrade my camera. By that time Adobe may have Lightroom for the PC actually working so that will be on my list too.

What reasons have your settled on Capture One over the others in your list P-E?

Re: Which RAW converter

Camera Raw within PS CS2 for me. Have never tried anything else, as this seems to do the trick for me .......... or maybe I'm missing out

I like the cleaness of the RAW file it displays plus the colours.

Nice layout and easy to use.

Infact the layout is a little like RSE;

Only problem is if I have Capture One and CS2 open at the same time after a while everything painfully slows down in CS2........I am led to believe this is due to some memory leakage in CS2

I do the basics in Capture One then take the image into CS2.

Silkypix displays some vibrant colours and is worth keeping an eye on as they continue to develop it.

Bibble is a little clunky but worth a look.

As for DPP I do like this one and will continue to follow the progress of this as IMO this displays the best reds that I have seen even though I am colour blind.

I too is looking forward to Lightroom on the PC.

Re: Which RAW converter

Nice summary, thanks for that

I might take a detailed look into Capture One. I presume there is a time limited free trial available?

Re: Which RAW converter

I currently use rse but am not that happy with it, I have only just recently started shooting in raw as most of my stuff is editorial/press stuff but having tried raw I don't think I will go back. Only working with CS at the moment till I can justify the outlay for cs2, That may be a while with the amount of money that goes over my local bar!!!!!!!!!!

Dunno myself, but CS2 is a total memory hog! I have 1GB (system devoted to editing graphics) and it uses a massive chunk and everything grinds to a standstill.

I use CS most of the time and CS2 only if I need to convert some dreadful Canon RAW file!

Oh, and use Sigma conversion S/W - great stuff too!

I wasn't happy with RSE either Gary but it works for so many others

I have 2G of memory and it CS2 seems OK apart from when Capture One is open at times.

Just this minute received update that SilkyPix 2.0.23 is now available.

Now supports Nikon D80 and some bug fixes.

I've got 2GB as well and use CS2. Only thing I don't like about it it doesn't always seem to "release" memory resources once you close all images down.
