Re: Raw file processing

Not used Photoshop for ages to process RAW files, but in Lightroom you have export options. I use 16bit tiff which results in about 70MB files, but if I chose to export in 8 bit tiff the file size would obviously be smaller - typically around 25MB. If ACR in Photoshop has similar options that might explain why the files in Photoshop are smaller. However, you can 'save as' in 16 bit tiff (or 8 bit, or jpg) from Photoshop, so maybe this is where you are loosing the file size.

The export option in ACR is where I'd start to look.

Re: Raw file processing

At the bottom of the ACR window "Starting on the left" side is a save botton, it will open up options for that, jpeg psd tiff etc. Next to the right is a link under the picture itself that says size in writing, click on that and it will bring you to a list of different sizes. You may upsize or down size from there, also when you select a size it stays there until you change it back. Best pictures are the size your camera takes, you can set ppi there to. Next to the right is the open button, the cancel button and the done button.

Re: Raw file processing

Thanks Boofers. I was sure that there were options in ACR but did not know if they were in a preferences menu or if they had visible controls.

As I said, I've not used ACR in PS for years and the grey matter can't remember details like it could (or should?).

That's OK Graham, I've used ACR from the begining and only used the save button for the first time a few weeks ago to batch process a load of jpegs. I should have mentioned that. That's useful as you adjust one out of an opened folder in ACR and then saved. That will give you an option to process the whole folder
