Raw files Help!! Please
My problem is, im just starting shooting in raw, the Canon Digital Professional editor will only recognise my 400D raw files, but it wont see my G6 raw files any info on this please i would be very grateful, thank you ...Ray

I believe that DPP only supports EOS cameras. For the G6 you have to use Zoombrowser which is supplied with both the G6 and the 400D, or a third-party converter.

ah right thank you silkstone, ive just found if i double click a G6 raw image it opens in photoshop CS_2 thanks for your help...Ray

There is no standardised format for RAW files and they are different for each camera, so changing the extension won't work unfortunately. That's why RAW converters need updating for every new camera.
It makes life very complicated and it would be ideal if the manufacturers could agree on a common format, but that is unlikely to happen in the near future. The RAW file is just the unprocessed data from the sensor, plus other info on the camera settings which may be specific to a particular make and model - hence no uniformity. Adobe had hoped to solve this with DNG, but there can be problems with this and again it is a proprietary format, so I don't see the like of Nikon and Canon adopting it in a hurry.
