Unhappy RAW images, high ISO

hi everybody kind of a noob problem here, i'm abit new to RAW

I was just tweaking some of my photos which i shot in RAW, ISO1600. I tried to bring the brightness up a touch then all these red dots became more noticeable as I brighten the image

anyone know how I could get rid of them? i tried taking the red down but that just ruins the photo

thanks!

rodger

Re: RAW images, high ISO

Sounds like noise, Rodger. As you increase the ISO the amount of seemingly random pixels increases - it's the result of increasing the sensor sensitivity.

You can try de-noising the image with a product like Neat Image or Noise Ninja but these may be only partially effective and can introduce a general softening of the image

Why not upload an example in your Gallery and then members can comment and offer suggestions?

Re: RAW images, high ISO

There are a number of free noise removal softwares which are very effective, up to a point. It's not worth taking all images at ISO 1600 and assuming you can fix them in post processing, but you can assume that you can reduce the level of noise considerably.

Try this: Imagenomic - Imagination at Shutter Speed The download at the bottom, the very bottom, the community edition standalone, is free and not time or pixel limited.

If you don't already have a favourite RAW converter, you may like to look at Bibble which has a basic version of Noise Ninja built in.

Re: RAW images, high ISO

Adobe Camera Raw has a feature that will color clipped highlights red as you change exposure (move the exposure slider to the right). Is that what you are seeing?
You can turn this feature on and off by clicking on the triangle in the upper right of the histogram.
