RAW Lighting

Hi,

Strange thing started happening since i have taken the plunge into the world of RAW. On certain images there's a dark edge to them, almost like a black gradient (only very very faint), but it's not on all of them. I have had this the past two shoots and whilst i can edit most of it away, the shots that don't have it are great straight away and don't need editing (which is always a big bonus and time saver)

Anyone experienced this problem and/or have any suggestions?

thanks

Re: RAW Lighting

have to say im not sure how u can get away with a raw shot that doesnt need editing as RAW are usually a bit on the flat side and are specifically designed to need edited. even if its just a tweak on the colours and an USM as i think all digital images are on the soft side and should be sharpened a tad

Re: RAW Lighting

im afraid i cant post the problem image as its of my second cousin and doesn't have a release form and is of a child so i'd rather not (not that i don't trust this community, just the internet in general )

i have a feeling it may be because of not getting the lighting quite right and possibly needing an umberella for the other studio light (one has a reflector the other the umbrella)

regarding editing, although i tweak the exposure and brightness etc i didn't have to do much else with this batch, came out shockingly well and to be honest i want the soft effect for babys photographs but i agree slight sharpening often helps

Re: RAW Lighting

It could be that you've exceeded the flash synch speed of the camera's shutter, leading to a black shape like the on you mentioned when the flash fires, because the shutter speed is too fast for all the light to expose the image properly before the mirror goes back down again.
