Rawshooter / With Coral Paint Pro Xi

JUST AS A MATTER OF INTEREST, WHEN I DOWNLOADED RAWSHOOTER,
CORAL PAINT PRO XI , ALSO INSTALLED , IN THE SAME DOWNLOAD.

I AM NOT SURE WHETHER THIS IS A TRIAL VERSION, AS IT DOES NOT SAY SO, WHEN
I GO INTO IT.

I DON'T KNOW HOW I GOT THIS, OR HOW LONG IT WILL LAST, AS TRIAL VERSIONS
NORMALLY SAY HOW LONG YOU HAVE LEFT.

ANYONE GOT ANY IDEAS.

Re: Rawshooter / With Coral Paint Pro Xi

I would be a bit suspect about this. AFAIK, Rawshooter got assimilated into the Adobe borg quite a while ago... so Lightroom is the new Rawshooter. At least that was my understanding.
Somebody please correct me if that's not the case...

Did you download Rawshooter from a reputable source?

Re: Rawshooter / With Coral Paint Pro Xi

Would you mind sharing the link for this? The reason I ask is because the Rawshooter website is Redirecting to Adobe, which now redirects to a page on Adobe's website about their acquisition of Rawshooter.

When I bought PSP X on a disk, I'm sure RawShooter was also bundled with it. I think that maybe before Adobe swallowed it they might have had an agreement with Corel.

Re: Rawshooter / With Coral Paint Pro Xi

OK no worries, I was just interested as sometimes ripoffs of legit software are bundled with nasties and often you can tell if a site is dodgy just from the URL.

Dabhand16's comments are reassuring, though.

Have you checked the 'About' box in Photopaint (I would expect it to be in the Help menu)? That would usually give version details and details of any trial restrictions, I reckon.

Dabhand, How Long Ago Did You Buy The Disc, Do You Know When Adobe
Took Over Rawshooter As I Only Downloaded It Last Week.

I Definately Found A Rawshooter Website, I Did Not Find It In Adobe, That
Is Why I Am Curious To Know Why I Got Coral As Well.

It Is A Bit Of A Mystery If Adobe Took Them Over Awhile Ago.

Re: Rawshooter / With Coral Paint Pro Xi

I bought PSP X ages ago, probably just after it came out. You can still download Rawshooter, I think there is a link in our software section, but there is no support anymore.

Adobe's takeover of RS was fairly recent, so I guess there are still loads of bundles around.

Re: Rawshooter / With Coral Paint Pro Xi

11.2 is the latest and final version of PSP XI. Some versions of PSP were bundled with Rawshooter Essentials (as has been said), but (as has also been said) Pixmantec, the developers of Rawshooter, were bought out by Adobe last year, and Adobe ceased to support Rawshooter or release updates for newer cameras. Although Rawshooter used to be many people's favourite RAW processor, it is now defunct and there isn't much point in starting to use it as it will not be able to read RAW files from new cameras.

Having said all that, I have never heard of PSP being included in any Rawshooter download, so I'm a little puzzled by that. AFAIK it is no longer possible to download Rawshooter from the Adobe website, and the old Pixmantec URL redirects to Adobe.

PSP XI is very good, and you should be able to get a genuine copy for less than 40.

Re: Rawshooter / With Coral Paint Pro Xi

Regrading Rawshooter, I have just been in contact with Michael Tapes who used to represent Pixmantic and moderate their forums before Rawshooter were bought/sold to Adobe. He has asked me to pass on the following which I think might be of interest...

Obviously it is just a snippet of information and a little vague for now, however it does raise my interest and if I get any more information I will post it up for everyone.

Re: Rawshooter / With Coral Paint Pro Xi

That's very interesting, Steve. Michael produced some add-ons for Rawshooter as well as the instructional videos, so he probably knows something about the coding. Hopefully he can produce a Rawshooter clone without upsetting Adobe's legal pariahs.

I'm just wondering if it's a bit too late. Many people would have cheerfully moved to a RSP clone if one had been available a year ago, but now most former RSP users seem hooked into Lightroom (and its database). The rapid and unexpected disappearance of Pixmantec and Rawshooter also generated some scepticism about the longevity of other non-mainstream software companies, given that the big boys seem willing to buy out and kill anything good enough to pose a major threat.

Still, I'll be very interested in what MT has to offer. He was always very committed to the basic principles of RS and to helping users on the forum, and I suspect that the buy-out came as an unpleasant surprise to him even more than to the rest of us.

Did he give any idea of timescale, and do you know if he wants testers?

Re: Rawshooter / With Coral Paint Pro Xi

I agree with everything you say regarding the timescale since Rawshooter was no more and as much as I like the functions and features of Lightroom just yesterday I opened Rawshooter again for the first time in a while (to grab a processed shot) and I instantly noticed the difference in colour between the two.

While I have adopted LR as the best of the rest I am certainly not committed to it and if Michael can produce something that produces a better output while still giving me an easy to use front end and the control I am can get in other applications, then I will take a serious look.

Ref timescales and beta testing for the product, the only information I have is what has been posted. On saying that we will be in contact again over the coming week so if more information (that I can share) is passed along I will obviously add it here for everyone.

Re: Rawshooter / With Coral Paint Pro Xi

To be honest Woody, that's a bit of a relief, in a way... because generally when things seem too good to be true, they are. And online, that often translates as unwanted nasties being included as little bonuses with the download.
