Re: Resizing pics. to upload Help Please..

Not used PE5, but in PS I go to the image>image size, then in the dialogue box reduce the DPI to 72 and set the longest side to 800 (reason is another story). Image size varies a bit, but 15x10cm will usually do the job.

If I remember, I'll assign sRGB colour space via the edit menu, then in PS there are two saving options. You can 'save for web', where you can see the file size displayed and tweak it with a slider. This way strips the EXIF. I tend to 'save as' to a folder for uplaoding to Pixalo as a jpeg. When the jpeg dialogue box opens you can set the compression from 1 (highest compression) to 12 (lowest conpression - highest file size)

Depending on the image, around 8-10 will usually be OK, but you can check before uploading in windows by hovering the cursor over the image and the file size will be displayed.

After a while you will get to know if images need more or less compression, or you can keep PE5 open and just ovewrite the first one if it is too big. If you do this, remember that until it is refreshed the original will still show the old info if you hover the cursor. you need to either close and open the folder again, or use the back arrow of windows to leave and return to the folder. then the new info will display.

Hi Graham,

Thank you for that info, I resized my pictures and they uploaded fine. How is it that you can lets say have an image of 800X600 pixels with a file size of 200 mb. and another one of 800X600 but the file size could be over 300 mb.

Learning all the time

Re: Resizing pics. to upload Help Please..

Glad you got it sorted. As I understand it, file sizes are dependant on among other things, what is in the image. A picture of a plain wall will have a smaller file size than a picture of a flower garden as there will be more information to capture in the garden.

Re: Resizing pics. to upload Help Please..

Hi John. In strict terms, you don't upload into the 'sharing gallery'. When you upload using the link in the 'recent pictures', the image will go into your own gallery and just get copied into the recent pictures along with any images that have been uploaded into any of the main categories. It might be that the system will need a little time to do this.

Here are the details of exactly where images will display when posted in the various galleries.

I've just checked your gallery and there are no images in there!

Re: Resizing pics. to upload Help Please..

Hi Dave,

NO I deleted the pics from my gallery as they were not pics that I wanted to keep they were just pics testing my new camera and lens, just wanted to put them in to the shareing forum as first shots with new camera..

Re: Resizing pics. to upload Help Please..

You have to upload them to the web somehow, because to post them in a thread they need to be on the internet somewhere, and if you upload them on Pixalo, they will end up in your gallery, I think...

Re: Resizing pics. to upload Help Please..

Just to add on the issue of resizing, there's a piece of freeware available called fast image resizer from AdionSOFT which is pretty good. Google search should bring it up. Really easy to use.
