Re: Room for Improvement!

I've moved you post here as you have not attached an image.

The best way for us to give you advice is to post your pictures in the forums. So much easier than just giving general advice that might not be appropriate. You need not worry about people criticizing your efforts - they will only offer help and advice.

That's an easy one! Go the full sized image in your gallery. Underneath you will see two lines of code. Copy the top line and just paste it into your post. Thats it!

If you are hosting pictures elsewhere on the web you will need to insert the url with IMG tags, but the Pixalo size limits of no more that 1000 pixels on the longest side and 300kb file size still apply.

Change things.... and re-shoot.....
Patience, take PLENTY of shots, use different settings, take PLENTY of shots, then see what worked and what didnt.

I went out recently to take some shots of a pond, filled a 2gb card, and only three of the shots were worth the effort....
Disappointed?...
Not at all.
I was "Experimenting" with my new-ish 400mm zoom, now I know what doesnt work, I can go back and try again...

That is the beauty of digital.... you just delete the bad ones....

Re: Room for Improvement!

Two things I've found with shooting birds: getting close enough (so a large enough lens or bushcraft) and preventing camera shake (having to open up wide as the light is poor but need a fastish shutter to overcome shake)

With your Lorikeets it looks like camera shake - ironically, my best shot of one was on the waterfront in Sydney (but I still wasn't close enough )

So, as suggested above, try different settings but concentrate on a fastish shutter speed (or support on a tripod - often my preferred method)

Re: Room for Improvement!

Get (or use) a tripod. It will help avoid camera shake and improve composition of landscape shots. The other tip is look at what others are doing, learn from their successes and mistakes.

I have virtually given up with birds, it is very difficult to get close and I can't afford a long enough lens . The only birds that are relatively easy are ducks and swans. But since they are so common, the shot has to be almost perfect to satisfy me. If we had a garden, I would try near the bird feeder.
