Is it safe to buy cameras over the Net ?

Have noticed some people buy camera stuff over the Net, yet others choose shops. Is it safe buying on the Net, as there seems to be some savings ?

Depends on the quality of the seller. You can always ask here if you are unsure.

I've bought from Bristol Cameras and Collage Cameras in the past and had no problems with either.

Hope that helps

It also depends on what you're buying and where you're buying it from.

Canon dSLR's for example come without international warranty if buying from Hong Kong eBay sellers, Nikon as I understand it (check it yourself though) do have warranty. Lenses usually come with international warranty although sigma bicker about it a bit.

Personally when it comes to bodies I'll usually buy on the HIgh Street, lenses I'll go to whoever is cheapest providing they've got a reasonable reputation.

For accessories I'll tend to go to eBay.

What are you looking for?

Bought most of my gear (camera, lenses, hiking, computer) off eBay!

Do have certain other preferred online shops

Re: Is it safe to buy cameras over the Net ?

Happy to buy over the net, especially from HK due to prices, as long as warranties are valid in UK.

Only exception to this was when I bought a Sigma 10-20mm lens & was slightly concerned over reports of "quality control" . In this scenario I didn't want the hassle of posting possible faulty goods back to HK, so bought from Jessops.....still over the net mind you
