Re: Scotland

It is a big place with lots and lots of fantastic landscapes, you'll have to narrow it down a bit

Re: Scotland

Got to agree with Big Graeme, its a big country. If you have a rough idea where you plan on going and for how long it would be easier to steer you. There are a few folk on here from Scotland if you look for shots from fionaB, DaveB2409, chilliman and orangepeel to name but a few that may give you an idea, I like Skye (but I'm biased) and the west coast.

If you want mountains - head for the Cairngorms/Highlands or for water, head for the lochs - there are plenty to choose from and all beautiful

Guys
Sorry, not enough info. I'm thinking Loch Lomond to start, but not sure from there. I love water, waterfalls and mountains. I have a week to cover the ground.

Glen Coe and Glen Etive are within easy travel time (about 1 hour) from Loch lomond plenty of shot opportunity's heading up that road to fort William.

Re: Scotland

Guys
Thanks for the assist. I'm on holiday, just in time for the Autumn weather. I was going today, but probably wait to the back end of the week, now.

I think I will start with Keswick, Lomond, Glencoe, Torridon and take it from there.

Thanks very much. I anticipate a lot of pictures.

Re: Scotland

John, I'm not sure you can just stick a pin in a map and say one particular place will give you better shots than others. As someone has already said, Scotland is a vast place and the variety of scenery will cater for all options, be it mountains, lochs or coastal. A week will give you a 'taster' though I expect you'll wish you could stay longer once you get started.
One last thing: if you're going up the west coast - you might also (though possibly not) 'enjoy' the local wildlife. Take a good midge repellent with you!

I cant agree with Fiona enough, I've tried lots of repellents over the years and by a country mile the avon is the best thing I've used, I've not needed to try anything else for the last few years and I am very glad I had it last week as the little blighters were out in force where I was.
There are a few Avon skin so soft products but THIS is the one on their site that does the job (the bottle has changed from a light blue). If you pick it up in local shops be prepared to be fleeced to the tune of 5-7 per bottle, worth keeping an eye on the Avon site as they often do free delivery offers.

Re: Scotland

When I went to Scotland last year I travelled light I only took my trusty compact as I was told you have to be very lucky with the weather! we had a week of sunshine and no rain at all, I stopped at Tarbet, Loch Lomond, took the train to Fort William across Ranoch Moor and loads of other places all in the comfortable seats on the train it made a great rest from driving,it was super, be warned the midges are out in the autumn so its best to sample the local drinks in the hotel and do your photography when you are fully topped up with the local brew! the midges dont like that! have a nice time!
