Question Seeking Vers 1.1 firmware for Panasonic TZ6

Hi Group, a new newbie here

I am the proud owner of a Panasonic TZ6 camera. It contains the old firmware Version 1.0.
I am trying to find a source for the upgraded Version 1.1
Does anyone know where I might obtain this please? Maybe a member would email it to me?

Why Version 1.1? The Panasonic site now only contains Version 1.2 and this version (I am told) will inhibit the use of non-Panasonic batteries in the camera. My camera came with two spare non-Panasonic batteries and I want to continue to use these. But I also want the functional fixes in Version 1.1.

So, any help appreciated.

Welcome to Pixalo Popmorgangd

You are right in thinking that the only way you are going to get the v1.1 firmware is from someone who has already got it on their computer. I don't know of any manufacturer that keeps old versions of firmware available for use once there has been an update.

Good luck with your search.

Ok, so I did a search for you, using criteria of Panasonic DMC-TZ6, if that is the wrong camera, please ignore below.

Hmmm... You will definitely have to "Scan" this with anti-virus before you open it, 'cos I am getting "Site unknown" reports from Norton on the mirror link, but, after a bit of googling, I found this for you....

PLEASE NOTE....
As I have no way of verifying the contents of the download link, it SAYS its version 1.1, I am pretty sure it is, but please double check EVERYTHING before you take for granted its safe.
The name of the file you are after, is TZ6_V11.exe

Updating the firmware on your camera, as I am sure you know, is akin to flashing the BIOS on a computer, always make sure you have a fresh battery in the camera before you start, as interrupting the update procedure can kill the thing stone dead, with no known method of recovery, or "System restore" procedure, its an "All or Nothing" procedure....

Saying that, updating firmware is a healthy thing to do in the right circumstances, as you get better functionality as upgrades become available...

I also not the HUGE RED warning on the Panasonic download page against using Third-Party batteries....
Aint they nice?...

I do not use Epson inks for my Epson printer either, 'cos they are damn site more expensive than the supply of ink I get which is better quality than Epson....

On the page below, it asks for a "Validation Code", its case sensitive, then you will be passed to a second page...
Caution here.... the FIRST download link gets you "File not found", (according to a link checker I have in Firefox that warns me of dodgy files...) so go for the "Backup server" further down the page....
You should get your normal downloading warnings/questions, dependant on O//S.
As I say, you MUST run a scan with anti-nasty software before you do anything with that file.

Silver Dragon, many many thanks for your efforts. Much appreciated.
Your Googling capabilities clearly exceed those of mine!!

Re any viruses in the .exe file, I will do as you suggest with scanners.
I'll also run it in a virtual machine just in case. I have VMWARE.
It should I think produce a bin file which is the firmware. No point in scanning that, since it's only for the camera and whatever OS it runs. So Win scanners unlikely to be any use.

Now, I am about to leave on a week's vacation so will NOT try the upgrade before I go - want to be sure I have a working camera while away

Will attack it when I get back and update the thread with results.

Thanks again

Post Re: Seeking Vers 1.1 firmware for Panasonic TZ6

Hi SD, FYI . .

Just followed those instructions and the file I get is TZ6_V11.download.
Not a .exe as the site suggests.
Vista tells me that ".download" is a 'Safari' download filetype.
I am using the Chrome browser.

So, I fired up IE and used your link and hey presto - I get the .exe file.

File sizes are identical so I guess it's just a browser issue.

Just thought it's worth noting.

Sometimes its not just knowing what to look for, its where to look for as well...
Many sites store "Old Versions" of drivers etc, as some people have problems with new ones, like yourself, and may need to roll-back to earlier versions.

'Scuse me for my customary "Paranoid" scepticism here....
BIN (Binary) or not, I would scan that sucker as soon as it lands....
(On other boards I post on, my signature reads "Boards registered sceptic"....)

Its always wise to scan EVERYTHING you have, just in case... even "Zipped" files are unpacked under quarantine, as you have no idea what is inside, and .exe files are executables, that although will produce a .bin file, you dont know what ELSE they may "Execute" along the way?...I have seen malware disguised in so many forms, I just dont take anything to chance.

I note your problem with Chrome.... I will take that into consideration for future use, thanks for letting me know...
I use the Firefox here (and often Linux as well...) and it checked as a .exe file, so I will check out other browsers and see if it is a Chrome problem...
It more than likely is, as from what I can tell, the "Mirror" site that file is stored on, is probably running a Linux server, and Google (Chrome) just havnt figured that out yet, as Chrome is so new.

Glad to be of help....

Re: Seeking Vers 1.1 firmware for Panasonic TZ6

Hey there! I also have to downgrade from v1.2 to v1.1 for my brand new Lumix ZS1.

I know that in Europe the model # is TZ6. I just wanted to know, before downgrading anything, if it does matter if my camera is the North American model. Will the file above work properly on my camera?

Thanks snd sorry for bumping this

Cheers!

Axel, from Québec

Re: Seeking Vers 1.1 firmware for Panasonic TZ6

DMC-TZ6/DMC-ZS1 Firmware update service | Digital Camera | Digital AV | Consumer Products | Support | Panasonic Global

This suggests that there is a difference this time, but both files for v2 are exactly the same in size.

Re: Seeking Vers 1.1 firmware for Panasonic TZ6

Thanks for the reply! Anyone knows if the 1.1 is the same way?

I might just try it anyway... If the downgrade goes wrong for any reason, is it always possible to reinstall the v1.2? I never did that kind of tweaking before and I'm a little bit nervous.

Thanks !

Yes, just follow the usual instructions to upgrade.

As with all firmware changes, make sure its a full battery, and do NOT interrupt the process in any way at all, as a partial-change in firmware may make the thing useless.
