sensor dirt and f stops

Hiya all, I had an interesting conversation today with with my local camera shop owner, I went in to ask about sensor cleaning kits and got onto the problems I had with having to send my D1 off 3 times to canon. He had experienced a problem with testing the camera for dirt.
When sooting at f5.6 or similar he was not getting any signs of dirt on the sensor but when he stopped down to f22 the sensor was covered in crap.
Just a thought for you all to mull over

So ... are you saying we should shoot the sky or something at f22 to check our sensors for crap ...

... or take all our shots at f5.6 or wider to avoid the muck showing up in our shots ...

Re: sensor dirt and f stops

Shoot a plain blue sky at f22 then get out your scouring pad

Re: sensor dirt and f stops

For added effect after shooting a plain sky at F22 drop the image into Photoshop and run auto levels

I can promise you that if you were not depressed before, you will be after doing that!!
