Shooting Oscar
I have been invited to a party on Sunday night (24/07/09) BUUUUUT I have been asked to take photos "Paparazzi" style. The theme is Oscar night. If it is not chucking it down I plan to be outside to start but if wet then I will be indoors. Any advice appreciated.

Re: Shooting Oscar
You have to be rude and obnoxious...... oh, and shout the name of the person you're trying to pap like a demented idiot. Happy shouting!

Re: Shooting Oscar
I may be preaching to the choir here, but some thoughts that may help...
Batteries... Take spare "Fresh" batteries for the flash... lots of them..... Even though you may get thousands of flashes out of one set, I have found after about a couple of hundred in quick succession my speedlight 420EX performs better on a fresh set if they are normal non rechargeable... Rechargeable?... I have found a certain brand, Uniross, do a "Fast" NI-MH battery that suits my flash, the 2000mAH, but have not tried a prolonged flash shoot on it yet... If you have a spare camera battery, make sure they are charged... Take a number of memory cards. One thing I found on my Super-Fast CF "Ultra II" cards.... they overheat on Continuous "burst" mode when you try to take over 50 shots as-fast-as-the-camera-can-take-them.... Therefore, two or three smaller 1 or 2 gig cards are mare useful than one 4 gig card, as you can swap out the cards to allow cooling. Otherwise, I personally hate "Posed" shots, I find you get a more interesting shot when the subject doesnt realise you are shooting them.... the "All-huddle-and-practise-your-best-smile" thing really miffs me, so good luck with the shoot....

Re: Shooting Oscar
Just stick your flashgun on your camera and takes shots cropped either waste up or full length and always vertical.. dont try and be fancy bouncing the light off anything because thats not how paps do it. Just put your flash on TTL and snap away.. Shout their name and when they turn around just quickly shout "smile" thats your key to perfect pap shots.. also dont try and pose them as it will take up too much time.
