As passionate photographers, should we be boycotting the micro stock agencies where you receive less than a $/£ for your shot , if it's sold. Yes you get a buzz from your shot selling, but are you really only worth that small amount.
If we sell via these agencies are we not putting Pro Photographers lively hoods at risk , & for those looking to move to Pro, are we not selling ourselves short ? What do the amateurs & pro's think ? |

Re: Should we boycott Micro Stock Agencies ?
Just came across one of these while browsing the other night, this one was offering 20cents per pic if sold. Even as a newbie to photography, if I produced any images I thought were good enough for sale I`d expect to get more than 20 cents for them.I wonder how much these sites receive.

Re: Should we boycott Micro Stock Agencies ?
I was looking at a couple of these sites the other week, but i decided against it, I thought it was a little bit like tesco and its effect on the corner shop , if people use them they will grow stronger.

Re: Should we boycott Micro Stock Agencies ?
I agree that we should boycott or something anyway. I am just recently getting into photography as a possible livelihood so these micro stock agencies could be a serious deterrent. As inexperienced as I am even I know that my worst photos are worth more than $0.20

Re: Should we boycott Micro Stock Agencies ?
Qualifying this by saying I don't nor intend to earn money from stock photography but it strikes me that there's a market for small sized pics for a few quid and a market for large high quality pics for several tens of pounds upwards.
Who would want to buy a 50mb tiff off alamy if it's going to end up as a 100 pixel wide gif on a private website? |
