some advice please

First of all i'd like to say that what a cracking service the Pixalo printing is, i recently got a small 26 page booklet done and its created a bit of a stir at work..... i now have 3 people wanting to buy some of my work in verying formats, one by my boses wife tonight wanting to by him 2 for a suprise which is totally gobsmacked me! and taken me unawares because i really dont know what to charge.

What sort of mark up should i put on my work?? has anyone any experience of this? another thing is that there all work colleges and dont wanna overcharge mates, help i really need some advice on this.

cheers
Stu

Re: some advice please

Are these going to be framed or just the straight prints?

Re: some advice please

You can obviously charge more for a framed shot. I think that something like £15 for an A4, £25 for an A3, and £50 for a 20x 16. Canvas are a lot dearer.

The bare minimum has to be around twice the cost price to you.

For instance:

20 x16 print £10
Off the shelf frame £6 (from Wilkinson, and very nice too)

Selling price max - £50* - min £35.

If the frame costs £15, (B&Q) - Max - £75* - min £50.

* = unless you find someone who will give you more........

Re: some advice please

ok thanks graham, great advice. i was sort of thinking around double the price, good thinking about buying of the shelf frames was trawling the net for specialist framers and very pricey too.

Re: some advice please

I get a lot of my frames from a small chain called Wilkinson. Don't know if you have any around your part of England. They are very good value and really nice frames too. I paid £6 for a similar frame to this but they don't seem to list it now.

Here is the page for frames, and on the home page I think there is a storefinder, although you can order on line too.

Re: some advice please

Double the cost to friends and mates is good advice and a very fair price. For the work involved it means that you are really making nothing (which is good for friends and mates) but you are getting your work out there, being seen and that results in more prints from which you can charge more realistic prices.

Just make sure that your friends and mates are very aware that the prices they get the prints for are 'mates rates' and that you will not supply to friends of friends for that amount.

Congratulations on the interest in your shots
