Sony Alpha 100

Has anyone seen or used this camera?

I have been thinking about what my next DSLR is going to be as i'm not entirly happy with my minolta 7D. The sony is an obvious choice as my current minolta lenses will fit.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Re: Sony Alpha 100

I havn't personally had any hands-on experience, mainly because I'm a Canon man myself, but innitial review's in magazines have been quite favourable and seem to show that Sony are in it for the long haul with new lenses allready being announced, I believe it also uses the same sensor found in the Nikon D80 - D200 allthough I'm not sure about this.

I'd get down to the nearest Jessops and have a play with it to see how it feels, but since it is based on the previous Minolta models it would be worth checking it's specs to see if the thing's you have issues with at the moment have been upgraded/changed... out of interest, what arn't you intirely happy with on the 7D?

I moved from a 9xi to a 7D, which is maybie the problem. The 9xi was an excelent camera in every department, especialy the meetering modes.
The 7D just dosen't match up, I find the meetering on the 7D a right pain somtimes. It's also no way near as sturdy as the 9xi was (is this common amoungst DSLRs?).
I've also had problems with the camera being temprimental and have even had to send it back once.
It could just be I got a dud.

They don't have it anyway

Anything I've seen on the Sony has been pretty good, particularly exposure straight from the cam.

It doesn't look particularly quick in writing images to the card though which could be a bit of a disadvantage for you.

Sorry, didn't notice your location, that does make things a bit more difficult dosn't it!

It can be amongs't the lower priced DSLR models... the "Pro" models offered by the different camera maker's are alot more solid with feature's like weather sealing etc.... but you sure do pay for it!
