Strange happenings with RAW & CS2

Having a funny 5 minutes but when I open any image RAW especially in either lightroom or CS2 the image is very light , in light room it looks fine but in CS2 it looks like Ive removed too much shadow

But the actual image in any other program or windows picture viewer for instance then is really dark . which one is correct

This is a RAW conversion (ignore image was playing) but it appears very dark

Any thoughts /ideas, does it look too dark?

Looks dark(ish) but then I don't know what you're expecting! Sounds like CS2/Lightroom are using different monitor colour profiles if you're getting two different levels

The one you prefer

Each application that loads your RAW file has an algorithm which interprets your RAW data. The differences you see are caused by different algorithms. Which one is correct is debatable.

There's a rather extensive thread which illustrates the issue here: -

Re: Strange happenings with RAW & CS2

One thing to be aware of is that the Raw Converter in Lightroom is more or less the same as used in CS3. However, the CS2 Raw Coverter is different to Lightroom.

Re: Strange happenings with RAW & CS2

Sounds like a colour management issue, yet again.

If you've converted to sRGB colourspace and are looking at the image on the web or in the Windows viewer, that is how it looks to the rest of the world. If LR or CS2 show it differently, there's probably something awry with the colour management - perhaps because of Adobe Gamma (???) but I'm sorry I can't be of any real help because I don't use either of those.
