Re: A thought

I suppose it depends what sort of photographs you want from your holiday, and what sort of holiday it is.

If you want basic holiday snapshots then yes, a small compact would probably be fine.

If you want the sort of creative control a DSLR provides e.g. very shallow depth of field, capturing fast action, working at a longer focal length - then it's DSLR all the way.

Personally I really don't understand people with a keen interest in photography spending thousands of pounds on great camera gear, then going to a superb holiday location and taking a small compact camera. It baffles me. It's like having a keen interest in in motorbikes, owning a Yamaha R1, then going on holiday to a superb biking location and pootling about on a step-through scooter.

It all depends on how important photography is to you I suppose. I have one pal who goes on holiday to Turkey every year and leaves ALL his camera gear behind. He doesn't even take a compact! Then again his holiday usually consists of lying on a sun lounger by the pool sobering up from the night before LOL!

Re: A thought

I HAVE SEEN WATERPROOF CASINGS, FOR DSLR'S, I DON'T KNOW WHAT THE COST OF ONE OF THESE WOULD BE, AGAINST THE COST OF A WATERPROOF CAMERA.

FOUND THIS, IT'S EXPENSIVE, BUT THERE MAY BE CHEAPER VERSIONS AROUND, BUT IT WILL GIVE YOU AN IDEA.

Re: A thought

Thanks Woody

that case is a piece of equipment , on the expensive side for two weeks a year though . I think I'm just going to get a Nikon Aw100 and leave the DSLR at home .

less to carry / worry about .and they hate sand .
