Question Travelling Advise

Hi all
I will be taking my gear (for the first time) with me on hol later this year.(Don't tell the wife! she thinks I'm gonna be sunbathing)
It got me thinking about the logistics of it. I would expect to put my tripod in my case, and be able to carry my camera and lens as hand luggage.
My travel agent seems to think it will be fine, but I just wondered if anyone knows of, or has had a different experience.

Cheers
Daz

Re: Travelling Advise

Just check your airlines baggage restrictions, as long as your bag isn't oversize or overweight you should be fine.

As an example I regularly take a Lowepro Mini Trekker filled with most of my gear as hand luggage onto Ryanair (UK flights).

Re: Travelling Advise

I took a Tamrac Expedition 8 around Oz and NZ (tripod and laptop in main case). On the way out I had the:
"It's too large you'll have to take something out and carry it in your pockets" to which I replied:
"Fine, when you produce your piece of paper agreeing to pay for consequential damage". They let me take it as it was!
All my flights, where it was oversized, I never got any probs but return flight they weren't happy that it wouldn't fit in an overhead locker

I wouldn't risk it again as they'd be in their rights to turn it down!

Re: Travelling Advise

Well after traveling around the world with lots of gear digital has put a stop to that, here's my list for 2 weeks: 1 DSLR...a short zoom 18-70mm...a 70-300mm...a low powered flash if needed.....4 4GB CF cards...a compact camera...a small 10inch laptop (thats if you need one) and (not a netbook).... the smallest camera bag that you get the photogear in... and all this will fit in a small overnight carry bag (including the laptop, thats if you need one) which you are allowed to take on board, when weighing in put the heavest lens in your pocket, I dont take my tripod anymore thanks to VR, oh and a warning dont leave your wife by the pool sunbathing too long on her own, its surprising how quickly they make friends with the waiters!
