*** PLEASE NOTE THIS IS IN REFERENCE TO ANOTHER SITE ...... NOT PIXALO ***** (uplated by pixalo crew)

Some time ago someone here wrote [I e-mailed their Admin (someone called Steve from Ruislip) with my feelings and I was rapidly i.p. banned from the site! Fortunately in the meantime I traced a few of their main photo contributors to warn them. ]

I have just been banned from this site.
I made the mistake of commenting on a reply I got to a message I posted. It was the same message for help that I posted here under the title 'Picture Transfer'.
At the end of my post I tagged on the line: 'A reply by e-mail would also be handy'

This guy Steve patronisingly told me that I was insane for even thinking about posting my e-mail address on the Web for all to see!
He also stated that I would 'Suffer for life from SPAM' if I did so!
He made several other patronising comments and when I replied to this effect ...I now find that I am banned!

Re: Ukexpert.co.uk

My email address is all over the place, on websites, my business cards, my adverts for my posters, whatever. So what? Anyone wants it it's robbarron@aol.com

Anyone going to ban me for posting my own email address? Nope! We all suffer for life from Spam, it is part and parcel of the internet, life goes on!

If UKExpert wants to ban you for that then it just shows what sort of site it is. Not saying you shouldn't be a member of other fora if you wish, go right ahead, but select carefully. From bitter experience they are NOT all as good as Pixalo and none that I have found have been as friendly, welcoming and helpful.

So welcome to Pixalo, enjoy the forum and if you really want to tell someone your email address that is up to you. Might be advisable to tell them in a PM but the choice is entirely yours.

Cheers,
Rob

Who by the way is not a member of the Pixalo Crew, I am just a member who thinks it's the bees knees!

Re: Ukexpert.co.uk

Well to be honest it's not good netiquette to ask for replies via email

It kinda says: -
"I'm too important/lazy to bother coming back here for your response"
"Can you go to the extra effort when replying to expose private information about yourself via email (IP & email addy)"

There's also the added point that forums are where peeps share knowledge. If everyone replied via email it wouldn't be much of a shared resource.

As for the posting the email address comments - sound advice imo.

btw, your post isn't very clear. Are you banned from here or ukexpert?

Re: Ukexpert.co.uk

i have to agree with everything that Rob and peel have said, however i do think that if you want to put your email out there then that is your own choice and to ban you frmo somewhere for doing so smacks of high handedness and a bit like " we know better and dont want the likes of you here"............ you will do far better here anyway

Note on Pixalo , it's always possible to get PM'd when a subscribed thread is updated, which in turn should email you

I am banned from UKEXPERT.
I did not request replies ONLY in e-mail but ALSO. I have long been an advocate of replies being made for all interested persons to see.
I have absolutely no qualms about making my e-mail address known ...I do so every day.
It was one of the main points I made in the reply that led to my ban. I also added that I have given out my 'snail mail' address on inumerable accasions in the past ...admittedly within more secure situations.
I believe my 'sin' was to criticise the person who replied to my post for being ...IMO ...patronising.

Re: Ukexpert.co.uk

ok im sure i am not the only one who went over to have a nose at UKExpert............ i was however a bit surprised when reading their terms and conditions........

not only do they insist that you upload hi res images up to 8mb.... they do not allow any text OR writing at all on them...... but include this in their Tand C

"By submitting images and messages and other material to ukexpert.co.uk you warrant that you are the copyright owner and that you grant ukexpert.co.uk permanent copyright ownership equal to your own for all materials uploaded. This includes a permanent right for ukexpert.co.uk and its associated systems and companies to make use of them in any way they see fit, including but not limited to use in advertising and promotional material. This means you can continue to do as you please with your photos and messages and other materials uploaded but by adding these items to the ukexpert collection/system you are granting ukexpert the right to also do as it pleases with all content submitted to the system. You agree that any material uploaded to the system or created on it, including but not limited to photographs, messages, and user IDs, may be retained as the property of ukexpert.co.uk "

cheap way to get access to someone elses hard work! have to say as soon as i read this i exited the site and i for one wont be going back to it!
Ches you were lucky i reckon!

Re: Ukexpert.co.uk

Excellent point very well made Fiona. Taking members copyright to allow showing on the website here is fine, that is necessary because some numpty might upload a picture and then moan it is being shown (Doh, why did you upload it then!) but the wording of UKExpert clearly says they can make use of the pictures in ANY WAY THEY WANT and that is why they insist on high res.

Ask yourself this question: what other reason would a website have for demanding high res pictures other than that they want to use them for their own profit making? On this website, there is absolutely no need for high res at all.

Ches, thanks for highlighting this site, it really does make me feel grateful for what we have here on Pixalo. Sure giving out your email addy is not usually wisest action BUT it IS up to you and I don't need some officious power-mad admin guy telling me what I can and cannot do. And if he does it, I will happily call him patronising, just like you did.

Ok, time for me to go now, Casino Royale tonight :o)

Cheers all,
Rob

Strewth, apart from stealing your pictures and you giving them permission, they can sell them and not pay you a penny and can even publish your comments as though they are their own!

I can only assume the people who inncoently join that particular forum do not read the small print or do not understand its implications!

Ok, I'll stay
