Unsure.

Dont know if this is a stupid question or not, when you take a long exposure say 5mins, then after this time when the camera has to process the image is it OK to move the camera & move on to something else or do you have to wait there until its finished without moving it?

Re: Unsure.

The image will take no longer to process than any other shot, so once shutter has closed after 5 mins you can move on

Re: Unsure.

It will only take longer to process if you use long exposure noise reduction in camera, otherwise processing is as normal but again once the shutter has closed then that is that. You can move without ruining the image.

Re: Unsure.

Your camera will soon tell you if you can take another picture, but after 5 minutes whats the rush?

Re: Unsure.

The camera, once it has taken a picture will place it into a temporary "store" which is called a "Buffer" before it transfered to the memory card. The buffer memory can store a number of pictures and depends on its total size and the picture file size. This size varies from camera to camera but it usualy is large enough so that it not restrictive on taking shots unless you regularly use the "multi shutter" release mode which can be up to 8 shots / second.
Because the memory card is much slower in its transfer rate compared to the internal buffer, without the internal buffer you would have to wait until each shot is transfered to the removable memory card before you could take another shot.
Your long exposure shot will not be any larger file than the same shot taken in stronger lighting say at 1/100th second.

My experience with long exposure internal noise reduction is not very good. I have found it much better to turn off the internal camera noise reduction system and use a 3rd party software at the post editing stage that is if you find the noise excessive.

The reason for this is, once the camera internal noise reduction has been applied you are unable to go back to the original "raw or jpeg" file but using a 3rd party noise reduction you can always "save as" and keep the original file.

I hope this makes sense Simpbow, all the best.
Brian.
