So my colleague who I do running and triathlon stuff with tells me he got a 'help!' email from the Express paper asking for pics of Jenson Button who was doing the Windsor tri today.

They took a couple mine from the Sevonoaks tri in April and one was printed in today's Sunday Express and apparently the Star did a similar article. The Express was purchased but there was no way my missus would buy a copy of the Star

I rode a 50 mile cycle time trial race this morning and proceeded to snap all the other competitors after I'd finished. I briefly put the 1D2n & 300mm f4 on my tripod stool to use my other camera and then watched it fall off said stool, bending the lens hood and cracking the rear display screen. Oh and for good measure some of the body got scuffed as well

The screen still works so I'm hoping it's just the plastic outer screen that took the brunt. And I also hope the lens hood can be 'manipulated' back together. Cue an emergency parcel to Canon tomorrow.

Oops! Sorry to hear of that.

Do you have insurance that covers the breakage? Too late if not, but many household policies let you add 'all risks' cover for photo equipment. It's not as good as specific camera insurance, but better than nothing.

Good to hear about the images being used in the paper ......should get you a few quid but not enough to cover the repair bill I guess

My camera insurance has a £150 excess iirc. No doubt the repair will come to £151.99

I'm going to try and get up to Fixation this afternoon. It'd be rude not to ask if they have the Canon 200 f2 available for hire

No, this was well after I'd finished. I'd put the camera and 'pod down on to the stool to swap cameras.

Anyway, the lovely people at Fixation replaced the screen in about 10mins and charged £20

The lens hood has to be ordered in but the current is still working if not exactly circular.

Oh and the Canon 200mm f2 is . IQ looked fab in the quick play I had. Couldn't justify the hire cost though

That is good news Mike, that's not a bad repair price. Last time I dropped a lens, well I didn't, andy did It cost £200 to repair!!
