Upload sizing

Hi love the site. Can anyone give me some suggestions on the best way to size my photos down to 200kb so I can upload to my gallery? I see some of your shots and they are big and beautiful and mine are small and pixcelated. I am shoting a D-80 nikon so my files are quite large to start with.

Re: Upload sizing

Hi Seawolf, if you resize your shots to 800 pixels on the longest side, then use the save for web option, choose optimize to filesize and pick 199kb and save. works a treat but you lose the exif data.

Sadly, Seawolf, I cannot take the credit for the excellent tutorial. Hats off to Rob Barron, who has provided lots of equally useful and easy to follow tutorials in the Tutorials Forum.

If you have any other techniques that you would like to see in this forum, just ask and Rob will do one.

Where else could you get a free personal tutor on the net?

Pixalo rocks!

Re: Upload sizing

i just resize everything to 50% after an edit - this way it doesn't lose any quality and you can do it with most photo editing software: PSP, Photoshop, GIMP or even microsoft's photo editor.
keeping in mind that this method is best used if the file sizes are 3MP or smaller, unless you save in BMP or RAW formats you might even get away with 6MP for JPG files...this will usually result in a file size smaller than 200kb.
