view nx/capture nx v. lightroom/workflow any opinions?
Hi
I'm pretty new to all this, and getting in a mess with workflow issues. Have started taking raw but currently taking jpgs too as I'm not confident of getting a manageable workflow set up and coping with the conversion/labelling/storage...and that's even before doing any editing. I need to resolve this and move over to just taking raw. I did think I'd try and get to grips with lightroom, then take those that need further editing into photoshop. I've now been recommended to use nikon transfer-viewnx-capture nx 2.0 on the grounds that it is faster and more intuitive for the basics and better suited to nikon users, and also allows you to view your raw files quickly after shooting. Any thoughts? Any tutorials you recommend? I can't find any. TIA, Ruth |

Re: view nx/capture nx v. lightroom/workflow any opinions?
Workflow is a personal thing as much as anything else, and although there are some elements that will always be in there no matter what your workflow is, it will also depend on what files you are using, and what you are going to do with the finished pictures.
There are two things to consider. First is to set up a hierarchical folder system that makes sense to you, and then worry about the processing. I don't use the 'my pictures' folder as I don't want my photos to be on the 'C' drive. I have a 'Photographs' folder on the 'E' drive and use year/subject/month within that folder. I also have sub folders with 'Edits', 'Mono' etc in the main folders. I find the organizer in Lightroom useful, although I don't use it as much as I could. You can download a free RAW viewer to use in Windows from Microsoft. This will show the images in the folders.

I've moved this thread here as I think that although there is an element of software, the more general workflow theme is better suited to this forum.
