Re: viewing raw files in windows

It depends on which RAW files you want to view and if its just thumbnails or full size shots?

Can you give some more info and we'll try to help

Re: viewing raw files in windows

You can download a RAW viewer from Microsoft. I've got it on my desktop. I found it by searching Windows RAW viewer in Google and the MS site, I think. At least, I think it is MS software.

Does tiff too.

Works fine

Re: viewing raw files in windows

I am not sure with Olympus, but the software that Dabs has mentioned connected with me installing the Raw processing software for my brand of camera allows me to view my RAW files as thumbnails in Windows XP Pro.

Give the RAW viewer from Microsoft a try and see if it covers your model.

Let us know how you get on please.

FastStone Image Viewer, Screen Capture, Photo Resizer ...

I would look at this piece of software, it is free and is quite amazing for a freebee.
It will let you download, view, catagories and manage images.

Re: viewing raw files in windows

Also, FastStone keeps your camera's data, for example if you use the BW mode in your camera (which was forbidden until the D300's one, which is actually not that bad), it will show up the images in black and white. This might seem obvious, but conversely, if you open the same image in Camera RAW, it will not show the image as black and white, because of how the conversion information is stored in the picture 'algorithm', and just display it in colour.

A lot of complication to re-emphasise that it's a great bit of software

Re: viewing raw files in windows

You could also try Ifranview, but you will also have to add the RAW plug-in, I use it on the laptop for a quick look at photos while on holiday! It will also convert raw files but I wouldn't recommend it for doing that.

Hope this helps,

Alan (M0TFT)
