Web-site critique please!

I've just re-designed my web-site from a rather stayed design, and was looking for some feedback on the look and feel of it. The design may stay pretty similar (bar colours etc.), however i'm looking mostly for pic ideas, whether i have too many/too few, also any that probably shouldn't be there. I never seem to find the time to look through my images and select the good ones, so i just use the ones that are the right size already.
Your views would be very much appreciated, and don't worry about hurting my feelings, it only took a couple of hours to put together, so not the biggest investment of time ever.
Anyway, have a look and let me know your views!

Re: Web-site critique please!

I think it depends on what the aim of the site is. If it's just to display your photos then it's great, although some human interest is always nice, even if it's just a paragraph introducing yourself.

But if it is to advertise your services as a photographer then you need some text to explain who and what you are and what it is you do, and contact details of course!

Re: Web-site critique please!

I've not yet decided what it's use will be, (i meant to say that at the top). But i'm thinking it will be just to show images. I'll probably send e-mails to people who i want to view it and that will include all details and cover page etc, so they can then just see the pics, but i haven't decided fully yet....such is my nature.

Good first point though abd overlooked by me, thanks Angela.

Re: Web-site critique please!

Agree that as a gallery it works OK. What are you trying to achieve with the site James ?

Re: Web-site critique please!

Doh, your post answered it whilst I was typing. Have a look also at MG2 - a FREE and easy to use PHP image gallery script (Minigal v2) which from memory allows people to leave feedback, which may be of use......& it's free

Re: Web-site critique please!

I did see the MG2 gallery when i was creating mine, but i couldn't find a screenshot of the actual gallery working only admin screenshots, so i moved on. Maybe you know of some finished galleries i can see it in action on Dave.

On MG2's site you can demo some of the skin add-ons they provide, might be good enough to give you an idea if it's for you or not.

Linky - MG2 - a FREE and easy to use PHP image gallery script (Minigal v2) Just click "demo" (if available) beside the download button of each skin. It just takes you to a small sample gallery.

Re: Web-site critique please!

Thanks for pointing that out Sonsey, after clicking through a few of the skins, they have some details that are nice, ie. how clean you can make the pages which is always good for image viewing. Also though there are things i'm not so keen on such as the new page for viewing full sized pics, just means you click around too much and don't get to see a lot.
Another gallery i was toying with was designed by the same people who authored my image gallery, it's called 'Autoviewer' and a demo can be found at AutoViewer

Re: Web-site critique please!

Re: Web-site critique please!

I use sv too. I quite like it - so much I even bought it! Is small but perfectly formed.

There's a few minor niggles but nothing that can't be fixed. There is no tracking of the images viewed. The caption placement can be very fiddly sometimes (atm in mine they are not visible). Oh and you can't link to a specific image (I do have plans to fix that tho!).

I've already added EXIF info to mine and will be adding more functions as time goes on...

Re: Web-site critique please!

It is a bit of a shame not being able to track which image people are looking at, it's always nice to see the pics others find interesting!
