Re: What do you like about the MT24 ex

I sometimes use ETTL mode, but normally have the power set manually, after a test shot. Usually have power ratio the same on each head.

I've tried many several diffusers - the clip on stofen plastics are ok, but far from great, concave is popular - I did this with Dove (a deodorant) top. Recently I've used Dome diffusers. And lately being lazy have just some velum wrapped around - not a good as velum and the domes.

Re: What do you like about the MT24 ex

Cool, thanks for the pictures. I remember the lady bug. After seeing some of this over the web. One question comes to mind. "Is the end result to have the light break up into a cloud of light" ?. And the purpose would be because they are so close ?

Yes the purpose is to do that, so the harsh lamp lights don't come through. Almost like a portable light tent. And the need is because the lights are so close to the subject, you are in essence, controlling and providing all the light.

Re: What do you like about the MT24 ex

One thing I have found I don't like is the boney feel of the flash assembly. It is strong enough but needs support when off the camera. Went out and bought a new low pro bag that will hold the lights in the top compartment. This thing should hold every thing I have for macro. I should post a few pictures, but It was so sunny I got out the UV with my 40mm yashica, it works fine in the bright sun light. I have a space left after my lenses, maybe the UV. Naw.

Re: What do you like about the MT24 ex

The flash heads when not attached do worry me a small bit, but they've not yet given me an issue ( how's that for asking for it...). I had to have it repaired once - when the hotshoe broke when I dropped a camera with it on attached. I think the hotshoe is the weak point.

Re: What do you like about the MT24 ex

It's just fine Chris. Any feelings or just the knowing how many others have this flash would be a good thing. I have been behind on PP and I have been out with other lenses just haven't more then twice taken the 65mm. Out. I did go out this weekend and took 140 pictures with the 50D an a 50mm f1.7 attached, it was all manual and a Pentax lens. I actually had an 80% good focus. Good practice tho different then the 65mm. It's coming. Altho I have had no problems with the flash myself, it helps to ask because of the way I will set up my kit so I can move around and use the full accessory bag of gear.

Two separate flash heads can be swiveled around the lens, can be aimed separately, and even removed from their holder and mounted off-camera.

Re: What do you like about the MT24 ex

Hi shumi, a good point indeed, the heads can be moved. Sense I had mine before the 65mm I had a chance to change configurations of the flashes. I also have a set of Gary Fong diffusers on and so far they work fine. You bring up a strong point about the heads as people spend a lot of time making speedlite brackets just to reach most areas the MT24 ex will cover. Thanks for chiming in, I do need all the help I can get.
