What do you want?

I've been chatting with Admin about doing some short tutorials/articles and rather than do stuff nobody will read I thought it best to ask the members for suggestions about what folks feel they would like tutorials on (this is my pro mind at work, give the market what it needs not what my ego tells me it should have).

The most popular topics will take priority of course but it would also be nice (for me at least) to do some stuff a bit more in-depth/specialised so say what you think.

Thoughts...?

Re: What do you want?

Maybe you could draw up a list of possible subjects and have a poll?

Re: What do you want?

I like the beginners guide to Raw...also how to edit your picture with out doing damage to it. My understanding that if you take in Raw you have a seperate file with your picture to edit in and the original is not touched--see I could be wrong here and really need a tutorial in this

Also how to protect your picture while editing if just taking in jpeg.

Pick a tool in photoshop. There is just so much to learn with that program.

Using the different setting on your camera.

Flash is interesing . I was just reading an article on using flash.

Make a list of 20 or so ideas that you have and set it up in a poll.

Can't wait till the tutorials start. I really feel this site needs more tutorials. People like getting ideas in postings, but tutorials are a great teaching tool that I think is over looked on many photo sites.

Lead the way Pixalo in teaching for you have a lot of talented people on this site that can help .

Re: What do you want?

the tutarials going even be an ongoing project too...as to help the person writing it as well as the students...we could have a lesson a week or something - instead of having to wait a while until it's all finished...if you get my drift...!

Re: What do you want?

Hi Les
Great Idea,
For me {as a novice to this} I would be very happy for anything that you can do as all I have done so far is take a few photos and put them in the gallery as they stand. I have paintshop pro X but {despite being given encoragement from people on here} have not used it as yet. So therefore anything from using flash to the finished product will be great for me
Regards
Sparhawk

Re: What do you want?

Good idea Les.

If there are any questions you don't want to tackle, especially about P S Elements, I woudn't mind having a go myself. I find writing a tutorial or producing a talk, is the fastest way to learn new tricks and brush up your own techniques.

Re: What do you want?

WOW! Thanks everyone for the rapid responses, half expecting the Pixalo SAS to come bursting thru my front door!!

OK, there is obviously enthusiasm for more tutorials and as I enjoy writing (hey, seven books to my credit) and teaching it is something I'll enjoy doing.

I have to be straight with you all first though, there is a hidden agenda for me (and the subject of discussions with the Admin Crew) and that is some symbiotic publicity in the form of my workshop logos linking to my websites at the bottom of each tutorial. If this offends anyone I apologise in advance .

Bill

Sure thing, go for it with tutorials about PS Elements since I will probably stick mainly to PS CS3 (with reference to PSPro when I can).

However, I don't want to get too into doing only PS stuff since I believe we should all master the in-camera techniques as a priority to producing the best original image before hitting PS or Lightroom for the after treatments.

It sounds like flash would be a good place to start. Bear in mind that the tutorials will concentrate on technique rather than specific bits of kit (since my name is Les and not Jessops, I'm a photographer not a camera shop! ).

For the first in-camera bit RAW is definitely a good place to start too.

OK, a list will follow of possible ideas for you to vote on, until then...

Les

I'm happy to fill in with a few tips (if I remember any ) on Bibble and Paint Shop Pro once I recover from swimming against the tide.

Re: What do you want?

Like Dave, I would like to see something about portraits, how different viewpoints effect the end result.
For example, the position of the eyes or the tilt of the neck, how do these things effect the observer.
