Angry What Memory card?

All
I tend to buy Sandisk SD cards, but don't really know why I choose this particular brand.
Are all cards the same or are there some clear leaders. If so, what is the distinguishing criteria

Thanks

Re: What Memory card?

I now tend to use Sandisc now. I think any mainstream brand such as Lexar, Kingston and Sandisc will be OK, and I'm sure that Sony, Panasonic and others are also good. In the past I've used unbranded cards with no issues, but as cards are so cheap now I stick to the main brands.

Re: What Memory card?

I tend to stick to Sandisk but I also have a Lexar card which is just as reliable.

Bought the Lexar because it was on special at the time and much cheaper than the Sandisk, but I've never bought one since.

Re: What Memory card?

I tend to use Transcend, mainly because they are more readily available here and I didn't know any better That said, I have come across several charts on paper or via the Internet that give very good ratings for Transcend, and they often can be had for bargain prices less than 50% of SanDisk cards. Transcend also have the reputation for understating their speed - they work faster than quoted.

SanDisk are very good but it's worth looking at your usage of the camera. If you rarely use burst mode, and never reach the capacity of the camera's buffer then more or less any card will do as you are never filling the internal buffer of your camera.

Lexar have a very good name for reliability, they also have a very high price that goes against them in many reports, and they are often not as fast as they claim.

For my CF card I use SanDisk Extreme Pro. It is faster than any SD card I've tried, but I just keep a Transcend SD card in the 2nd slot (2 card camera).

It might be worth having a look at http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/2...Rates,862.html

Re: What Memory card?

Use Lexar and Kingston and have never had any problem with the Lexar's. Last week my D3 started black framing (intermittently) whilst shooting a horse event. Nikon asked for the camera back and it is currently under test. They believe it will be the cards (both Kingston) or the camera failing to get the information to the cards. It was the first time that I had used Kingston cards so I can not wait for the findings! In the meantime I took delivery of a Nikon D4 and this is using a CF card (Lexar) and the new XQD card from Sony.
