What next???

I read in the newspaper this morning that Mitsubishi have developed what they are calling a heterodyne light field camera. This will allow photographers to refocus unsharp images AFTER the photo is taken. The lens has 10 times the normal depth of field and using {as they say} software within the camera or on a PC you will then be able to pull the photo back into focus
I can see that if things carry on like this the next stage will be a camera that goes out, finds the perfect shot, takes it, comes back home checks out on your PC for any minor imperfections, sorts them out and sends them off to the correct newspaper/ Mag for publication.
While I {as yet} have not played around with my photos on a PC I would think that it is part of the enjoyment to TRY to get that "perfect" shot
Regards

I agree - you have to draw the line somewhere otherwise there is no fun any more.

Re: What next???

Yeah, know someone who's seen one of these types of camera - a year or so back. Basically, it takes a series of pics with differing DOFs. Heavy on the storage required (tho the one he saw was only a 640 x 480 px, I think)

Bit like getting an "HDR camera" (same thing but light weighted) I see nothing wrong. You still have to get the comp and lighting right - by far the most important things. It's just a bit of tech!

Hi Markulous
Would that mean that {in future} with one of these camera's instead of a memory card you would need an 80GB hard drive?

Re: What next???

As cool as the technology may be, there's one thing I was told that gives me a lot of comfort that photography as we know it will never really chance. The camera doesn't make the photographer. You can give a basic SLR to a photographer, and that person will produce miraculous shots. You can give the best camera ever made to the average consumer, and that person will not even come close to the shots of the photographer.

It all really comes back to the person behind the glass having 'the eye' for a good shot. Once you have that, getting the shots you want is more of a matter of knowing your equipment and being patient enough to take the shot properly.

I'm banking on at least a TB drive - one of the new technology flash drives, so no moving parts!
