What to photograph

Right folks, I am seeking advise please.
I am going to Glastonbury for a few days next week, the intention is to get some pictures of the Tor, the area and of course the town itself.
Any advise on what I should be looking for (what makes the picture that people want to see ?)
Obviously I am going to see if I can get some 'classic' shots of the Tor (close up and from a distance) mist would be an added bonus, but that is it 'classic shots' that we all see.
What would you like to see ?

Richard

Re: What to photograph

Drive via Avebury and arrive to catch the sunrise (not just a good time for pics but also before everyone else gets there!)

Re: What to photograph

Classic record shots will be of interest to those who have never been to the area, but it is always good to see if you can get an unusual angle or present a shot that illustrates something you have seen that maybe no-one else has, or makes us think.

Re: What to photograph

Avebury, that will be a separate visit, too good to just drive on through.
So I will make the effort to take some of the classic views, and then have a go at your suggestion dabhand16
I will post my efforts when I return (back on the 4th November) so maybe a couple of days after. I'll endeavor to get them up by the weekend 7th / 8th.
Assuming of course that I have some worth showing that is.

Re: What to photograph

I find Glastonbury a spooky place - it gives me the creeps. Maybe you could tap into that as a theme?
Avebury's a great place for photography if you can avoid the crowds. I'm with Markulous - start in Avebury.

Sorry, meant stop off there to catch the sunrise at the central stones - and then you could drive down to the long line of stones (where there's the greatest potential to get something different as it's relatively unvisited)

Re: What to photograph

Greetings Folks,
So, here I am back in the saddle again.
The pictures I took at Glastonbury (and a little further afield) were mostly disappointing to say the least.
Just goes to show, the tools do not make the photographer.
I have put some onto flickr Flickr: rwill19050's Photostream Note, mention picture of Holly Cat as an effort at a portrait.
Made smaller (under 2 meg) than the raw monsters that came off the memory card.
I used the sample beta copy of Adobe Lightroom 3, what a super program that is.
I am more than determined now to improve my poor efforts, as such I intend to visit our local'ish Oxford Photographic Society meeting next week.
They have loads of excellent photographers as members (looking at theirs and your galleries makes me wonder, yet doubt, if I could ever get even close to that quality ), and with luck someone there at OPS who can (or is willing that is) show me the 'error of my ways'
In the meantime I will be gleaning all I can from this and the Canon Photography Group. (Thinks, is it the done thing to belong to more than one group ) and enjoying looking at all your wonderful pictures and wondering how would I go about taking it to make it the same (if that make sense )

Richard

Re: What to photograph

How strange, I'm sure I posted yesterday, with a link to some pictures I took on Flickr.

Can't think I said anything to upset the mods, but would have thought I would have received a note telling me if i had.

Your post got snagged in the moderation queue and with us performing updates today it appears as though it got overlooked. I have authorised it now...sorry for the inconvenience.

Thank goodness, I thought I was going (even) dafter.

Richard

Footnote, just checked the link, it takes you to the wrong pictures.
It should be the Somerset & North Devon Set, not the silly Centre Parks pictures..
I really must get to grips with this Flickr thing, but my excuse is old age.
