What price band Printer do you use ?

After visiting Monochrome Photography Club, it appeared most Digital guys printed their own shots, with the Epson R2400 being very popular. Thought I'd check price out .......500+

Must admit though, the dedicated Mono ink cartridges on this system produced some stunning A3 Mono prints

Got me wondering what price printers people use at home ? Am I being a scrooge, being shocked at the 500+ printers

Have added poll, allowing multiple votes just in case you have more than 1 printer

Well currently have a 5 yr+ old Epson Stylus Colour 600, that must be equivalent to 29 printers these days . Only used for printing off text.

Re: What price band Printer do you use ?

I've got a Canon i560, cost around 85. Had it for two or three years now. To my eye the prints it give are really good. I bought it off the back of a Which? report that said that although it was not specifically a photo printer, it had really good photo capabilities as well as being very good with text in terms of speed and quality. At the time, I did not print photos, I got it for the good report on text printing. The bonus for me is that now I do print photos, it performs really well.

FHIW, the Canon 5200r and 5200 get the nod in the latest tests.

As I now find myself doing more photo printing, I'm actually considering an A4 printer, but I guess in the real world using an on-line service is probably just as economic for the number of A4's I would print.

Re: What price band Printer do you use ?

Canon ip5200 here - Think its was 85 from Dabs.com.

At the time I was considering the ip9950 - but the realization that I would never print anything at less than A3 again made me go against this instinct

Re: What price band Printer do you use ?

I recently upgraded from an Epson R200 (55 ebay) to a HP photosmart8750gp (350).
I still use the epson for text and printing CD/DVDs.
But the HP is my main photo printer now, what a difference
(who said money can't by you happiness)(thanks mum!!!)

Re: What price band Printer do you use ?

Hey Gary, what moan do you have about your i9950? If I moan the same, maybe they'll promise me a new i9000 as well

I must admit I haven't had a squeak of a problem out of mine and it is a beauty of a printer. The only weird thing is the software keeps defaulting my paper choice to top quality which bugs me as I forget to change it back to the default (plain paper) and end up waiting ages for a letter to print in top quality mode! Any ideas would be welcome.

Cheers,
Rob

Hi Rob, When printing A3 borderless at the start and end of the print I get black smudges on the print, Ive tried cleaning etc, Canon sent me another one not brand new and this one had banding problems on the last inch of print out, they replaced all the internals of my original printer and sent it back to me, same problem, sent out 2 engineers, same problem, sent me a load of canon pro paper, same problem. Canon said that they have 3 other pro photographers who are experiencing the same problem. They have been very good actually and have said that they will send me the new 9000pro when its released as a replacement.
Before this I had the i9000 which I used for about 3 years no problem and this one is only 10 months old. Other than that Fantastic!!!!

Try it you wont regret it there ace service is suppurb and its great for sharing photos too, someone on here suggested saving up the image you want to print then ordering them when there is an offer on this is a great idea with photobox there is always an offer of one sort or another. and you only then pay postage once.
Sign up to there mailing list and you'll get offers every week like these

Great offers and news!

there prints are supurb even mono, as you might have guessed I recommend them, give them a try lol

Re: What price band Printer do you use ?

I won photobox prints on an aol competition and i have to say going on the quality of paper they use i wouldnt order anything from them, i was so disapointed that i only used 24 of my 50 free prints and the rest is still lying there........ the image quality i couldnt fault but the papaer i could see thru it was so thin.

Re: What price band Printer do you use ?

sorry not got a clue about any of the other ones, i usually print my own but as i had 50 prints and free postage to use up i decided to get some of my snaps printed. As already written i wouldnt use them again. i dont know if they were giving me the basic quality cos i wasnt paying or what.

Re: What price band Printer do you use ?

I use colab Welcome to Colab Digital Imaging when I need enlargments over A3, they have a program cristalpix pro for uploading images.
But I tend to use their FTP uploading service as it tends to be poster size prints I use them for.

I've been using them for years and find them helpfull and reliable
