Re: what printer

There are a few around but if you want both quality output and the ability to get quality non-branded inks, I would recommend you stick to either Epson or Canon. Within those ranges, look for a printer that has at least 6 colours as this will give you far better photographs than a CMYK printer will do.

Personally I use a Canon i9950 with 8 colours and prints up to A3+ (19" x 13") and it is superb. This has been superceded now by the Pixma Pro 9000 which costs a heck of a lot less than mine did because prices have dropped but will give you absolutely stunning prints. This is currently 334 at Warehouse Express. There are other more expensive models in the 9000 and 9500 range but this one will do you very well and will give you the chance to print stunning 18" x 12" prints to frame and go on the wall. They are every bit as good as photos printed by a professional photo lab and will save you a fortune over their prices.

If you have only ever had an A4 printer and don't feel you need an A3 printer, I promise as soon as you have got one and seen the detail that is revealed in larger print shots, you'll be delighted and will be framing your own shots and giving them to family and friends as Christmas and birthday presents!

Cheers,
Rob
